The Gallery: Celebration

Here is another pick of The Gallery archives from me.  This time I have chosen to illustrate the theme of celebration and to do this I have chosen the bittersweet event that was our engagement party.

It was held in May 2009 and should have been one of the happiest days of our life but as we celebrated our love with all of our family and friends we were also fairly certain that our second attempt at IVF was failing.  We had a barn dance and I was not able to join in lots of the more energetic dances for fear of losing a pregnancy that was almost certainly already lost.  A night of love and celebration was followed by a morning of tears and commiseration and utter exhaustion.  We were beginning to wonder if our dream of having children would ever come true.

This was a great party and looking back at the photos I realise how much other people enjoyed it too.  I love barn dances, they are so inclusive and enable people to really mix and enjoy each others company.  We are having a barn dance again for our wedding in September and this time I will be swinging away with the best of them.  I can’t wait!

Think of the magic of that foot, comparatively small, upon which your whole weight rests. It’s a miracle, and the dance…is a celebration of that miracle.

Stop worrying about the potholes in the road and celebrate the journey!

Celebrate the happiness that friends are always giving, make every day a holiday and celebrate just living.

  1. I loved that night so much Jennie !!! It reminded me of my youth. I learnt barn dances when I was a teenager : we used to go there with my parents and sisters. We were often joined by my friend Ophélie and her family and we had very good times !

Rew and I were so happy to be with you to celebrate your engagement but at the same time felt very sad for you as we knew what was going on and felt lost for words to cheer you up.

So I’m glad you’re having a barn dance again for your wedding so that we can all happily dance together ! And I agree with you : it really helps people to get to know each other ! Will it be the same man entertaining everyone ?

    • I can’t wait either. So looking forward to it ! I’m definitely going to be ill when I start work again to make it to your wedding 🙂

What type of dress do you think is best then ? Quite formal like a cocktail dress or quite country ?

Have you realised your babies might walk or start walking by then ?

And I’m quite happy because I have two ideas for your wedding present and I’m quite proud of them ! You’ll get the two presents anyway because the one you don’t get at your wedding you’ll get it for Christmas 🙂

  2. The dress code for the wedding is informal. I think something similar to what you wore to the engagement party would be just perfect. David has finally decided on his attire too! Will be in touch soon x
