F is for Food

Jenny Matlock

I am a firm believer that as a guest at a wedding there can never be too much food and so the letter F in my wedding alphabet is, of course, for food.

David and I are getting married at 12.00pm and so are feeding our beautiful guests three times throughout our day.

Firstly there will be afternoon tea, then the main wedding breakfast(?) and an evening buffet.

I would love to know what you think of our food and so here is our proposed menu.

Welcome drinks
Pimms and lemonade

Afternoon Tea
Unlimited fresh brewed pots of tea
Freshy made ‘dainty’ sandwiches
Scones with butter and strawberry jam
A selection of cakes to include mini victoria sponges, mini treacle tarts, mini chocolate gateaux and fresh cream chocolate eclairs
Bowls of strawberries on the tables for guests to pick

The afternoon tea will be served buffet style and guests can sit wherever they like to eat

Evenin Meal
The evening reception meal will be more formal with a seating plan and food served to the tables. We wanted this meal to be a sociable affair and so have chosen platters for sharing to encourage conversation.

The wedding breakfast menu is

Starter
Antipasto Platter – Parma ham, salami, olives, mozzarella and fresh melon pieces with olive oil, accompanied by baskets of freshly baked homemade rolls

Main
Chicken skewers with apricots and peppers
Marinated king prawn skewers
Stuffed peppers
Tomato salad with fresh basil
Green rice with fresh chilli and coriander
Potato salad with red onion
Mixed green salad with fresh herbs

Dessert
Bowls of fresh cream profiteroles and strawberries followed by fresh coffee and and tea and Celebrations!

The final food offering of the day will be during the night time festivities and will be a cheeseboard and homemade cake buffet!
Nom nom nom!

We have chosen foods that we both enjoy and are close to what we would eat at home. We wanted the food to encourage people to talk to one another.

I hope the food fits. What do you think?

  1. That sounds perfect, I love the food and how your planning to serve it! I love the idea of the homemade cake buffet! My best friend married a Hungarian chap and its tradition that all the women bring homemade cakes, it was the highlight of the night I think!

  2. I was about to ask the question but I guess the comment above answers it. Homemade cakes means I can make one, isn’t it ?

  3. Oh yes Francoise please do make a cake! Would you like to make our chocolate cake that we will use for the ceremonial cutting of the cake? We need a willing volunteer x

    • Wow that would be a lot of pressure ! I’d love too but in England you always do these lovely cakes with icing and all that and I have no idea how to do this :/ Wouldn’t Michele or David kins be more able to make such a lovely cake than me ?
I cook but I’m not that good at making beautiful cakes ! If you don’t find anyone I’m happy to train and feed friends with chocolate cakes over the summer to be ready for the big day 🙂

  4. I will ask around but I am sure you would be fine. We don’t want anything fancy as the main cake is the tower of doughnuts, this is mainly for the cake cutting. I might just buy a kiddies choc cake with smarties on as wud suit our theme then children can have it as their dessert. I really like that idea actually. See you soon x

  5. What an amazing menu! I love the idea of it and I think if we were to get married again (which we won’t) then a feast like you’ve described would be perfection! A friend served late-night food as well, she chose bacon butties for everyone which I thought was genius (even though I am veggie!).

Thanks for linking up to ShowOff ShowCase.

  6. That sounds like am amazing spread, I wish I could have my wedding all over again and change lots of details, including the food to something like this. I bet it was really enjoyed by your guests.
