Orchard Toys Old MacDonald Lotto: A Review and Giveaway for Toys R Us

Last week saw the arrival of our last Toys R Us Toyologist Box in which we received not one but two games from the fabulous Orchard Toys. Crazy Chefs, which we will review next week and Old MacDonald Lotto which we have been looking at today.

This is a fabulous game for 2 – 4 players aged 2 – 6.

A fun farmyard lotto for very young players. Make lots of noises and actions as you find the farm cards to match the pictures on your playing board. Be the first player to match your farmer and you win the game!

Esther and William are still only 16 months (13 months corrected) and so are too young to really understand this game. What they can do though is look at the pictures of the animals and learn their names, their signs and their sounds. We have had great fun doing this today!

We have also used the boards to aid storytelling and the cards to prompt songs such as Dingle Dangle Scarecrow, Five Little Speckled Frogs The Farmer in His Den. This really is a well thought out, versatile game for all the family to play, in one creative way or another.

With these adaptations we now have a game that will grow with our children and aid their development along the way.

Orchard Toys provide an educational guide with their games and for this lotto game they say that it is designed to

Reinforce object matching skills
Encourage observation and memory skills
Develop social communication
Link with Early Learning Goals and National Curriculum Literacy Key Stage 1

The game comes with short but full instructions that clearly explain how to play and win the game. The boards and cards are bright and colourful and made of thick laminated card. This is a game that is built to last and be enjoyed for years and by many.

We have had great fun reviewing this fun, traditional game and think that it would make a perfect stocking filler this Christmas.

You can buy the game from Toys R Us for a reduced price of £8.99 or one lucky winner can get a copy of the game right here!

  1. I’ve also been and looked at Orchard Toys website and found the ideal stocking filler for my one year old daughter which is the Fairy Tales jigsaw

  2. I also love the Shopping List Game on their website – I used to enjoy playing it as a child and it is so educational for children too!

  3. I have completed steps 1 and 2. What a great game and seeing as my daughter is crazy about animals this would be perfect. She may to too young to play the game yet there is still so much we could do with it until she is older. We can look at the pictures and explore the sounds that the animals make.
