Bump Watch: 19 Weeks and No Movement

I am 19+2 and I am still not feeling the baby move. I am starting to wonder if something might be wrong? It is another 8 days until our anomaly scan. The wait is becoming excruciating.

I cannot remember exactly when I felt Esther and William move but I know that is was quite late on, beyond 20 weeks. I remember being at the 20 week scan and seeing the squidgers moving on the screen but not feeling a thing. The sonographer kept asking, “Are you sure you cannot feel anything?” I really couldn’t.

I just thought that with a second pregnancy, and with just one baby, I might have felt something sooner. I’m sure that’s what all the websites say.

What I am feeling is achey. My lower back aches and all around my bump. If I move too fast or lift Esther and William awkwardly it can really hurt.

I have some supportive bump bands and vests from Carriwell that seem to help but I do wonder as this pregnancy continues, if the pain gets worse, how I am going to cope?

My main worry is that Esther and William are still not walking. They will be 17 months old on Christmas Eve, 14 months corrected. I think it is quite common for twins and prem babies to walk later, Esther and William are both!

They are making progress though. Esther took two independent steps today and they can both stand for ages unaided, they just seem to be reluctant to get on and walk!

I am still not eating well in this pregnancy. I often do not feel hungry at all, something else that makes me think that something may not be quite right. I’m sure I am just being paranoid?

One week today and we will know.

On Saturday we will be half way, half way through our journey to meeting Matilda May!!

  1. Jennie is your placenta at the front? If it is then you may well not feel movement until 20 weeks plus – that is very common and totally normal – it is also really normal not to feel any movement with other types too – remember all those women who suddenly go into labour and didnt know they were pregnant? Try not to worry I am sure everything is fine – but if you are really worried then go into the hospital and ask for a quick check – or get a private scan booked, they are usually great.b You can also buy heartbeat dopplers on the internet which you could use if you are fretting.

  2. i can identify with lots of this… i have had 2 pregnancies (single then twin) and in both of mine i didn’t feel movement til after 20 week scan. With the 2nd pregnancy (twin) it was later than the first and i think it’s true that you hardly notice it until much later on because you are distracted.
also none of my kids walked until after 18 months. i was heavily pregnant with my twins by the time my lazy son started walking! also my twins – both girls plus they had an older sibling, so by all rights should have been walking early… were 19 months. however, on the huge plus side – late walkers are generally fabulous at just getting up and walking fantastically without bumping into shit all the time by the time they finally do it! so take comfort in that.
finally, if you need an AMAZING triple buggy – get yourself the ABC Everest buggy. It truly saved my life!
