New Mum and Baby Essentials

Today I have been making sure that I have all my essentials in place in case our little lady decides to come soon.

I am now 39 weeks pregnant and I am growing more and more impatient by the day. I think that David is too. It feels like our life is on hold as we wait to meet our little girl.

So what are the essentials I have bought or unearthed from when the twins were small? And why would I not be without them?

Snoozeshade
It is no secret that I am a huge fan of all things Snoozeshade. My love affair began with the Snoozeshade Twin that changed my life for the better. As a Mummy who could not go Esther and William had no option but to sleep on the move, either whilst I was walking or on a train, but always in their buggy. The Snoozeshade Twin made this possible and they began to sleep really well in our Easywalker Duo for good lengths of time. The Twin also fits onto our Cosatto stroller and this was wonderful when we went on Familymoon in September. For new Baby I have bought the car seat cover so far and will be adding the Snoozeshade single to the list in time for BritMums so that Baby can sleep in her Chicco Nunu whilst I eat cake and socialise!

Bundlebean
The Bundlebean is the Snoozeshade’s playmate in our house. Where one goes the other is sure to follow including on our Familymoon. Esther, William and Baby each have their own Bundlebean blanket which is one of the most versatile products I have ever owned. It can be used as a waterproof blanket that fits securely to buggies, car seats and carriers. The Bundlebean also works as a picnic blanket, a cover for a soggy swing, a changing mat and a playmat. I would not now be without one.

NodPod
This is the blanket that Baby will wear to come home from hospital. It is her blanket with legs to keep her snug and warm on a chilly May day.

Snugglebundl
The Snugglebundl is a baby carrying blanket which is as it’s name suggests just so snuggly. I am looking forward to wraping baby in this once she is home and using it to transport her easilya round the house when she is sleeping.

Ruby and Ginger Everything Covered Set
With Esther and William being boy/girl twins everything we used for them we kept very neutral and quite muted. As Matilda Bump is a girl I want to surround her with pretty things and baby accessories do not come much prettier than those from Ruby and Ginger. The Everything’s Covered Set includes all a new mummy will need for a day out with her Baby. I cannot wait to use mine!

The Nappy Purse, Travel Change Mat and refillable wipes case provides parents on the go with a compact and convenient way to carry everything they need for changing. It can be discreetly slipped into a handbag or pocket, removing the need for the larger changing bags.

Our unique Cosy Car Seat Cover offers protection from the elements whilst maximising safety. The risks to small children travelling in an infant car seat whilst wearing thick bulky clothing have been well documented. Because our Cover fits on the frame of the car seat, rather than the body of the baby, it offers the comfort and warmth of a snowsuit but more importantly allows the car seat safety straps to be tightened correctly

Finally, the simple yet clever adjustable Toy Tie ensures favourite toys are safely secured to the stroller, avoiding the inevitable tears if lost.

GroBags
Esther and William have been in Grobags since they reached the minimum weight. I am certain that they have helped Esther and William to sleep so well through the night and during their day time naps. They are also now part of our daily routine and the twins know as soon as they go in their bags it is calm down time and they are settling down for bed. When Esther wakes up now she enjoys a snuggle and then says ‘Bag off’ when she is ready to start her day. We have had lots of different designs and our current bags of choice are the Hippo Hop and Spot twin packs. We have two of these packs to ensure that each toddler always has a clean bag to wear. We have this songbird design ready for Matilda Bump to wear and she also has Esther’s old bags. We have lots! I have given William’s old bags to family and friends. They wash so well that they were still like new when we gave them away. The Gro Bags are a real quality baby product that we would not be without. I have bought some of their swaddle blankets for Matilda Bump too and cannot wait to try them out.

Blackout Blinds
In Esther and William’s room we have an insulated black out board that Daddy made and decorated with our jungle theme. As Matilda Bump will be in our room she will be starting life with more conventional black out blinds. We have decided to go for Gro-Anywhere Blinds as we have been so impressed with all our other Gro products over the years. It also means that wherever we go we can take the blinds with us as with Esther and William we have always had to use bin bags to block out the light!

Easywalker Duo

A good pram that suits your lifestyle
With Esther and William we have and still do adore our Easywalker Duo . It is an excellent travel system for twins and we have used it every day for almost two years. We still plan to use it with Matilda in a Baba Sling for some excursions. However, when it is just me and Matilda Bump I want her to have a pram of her own and also for shorter journeys when Esther and William will be walking. I wanted something small enough to keep in the house and to fit in the car alongside the Duo. I wanted something girly and I found the perfect pramette. The Chicco NuNu. I am now a very lucky Mummy owner of a NuNu and I cannot wait to get out and about with it. Watch out for tests and reviews of our new addition here on the blog!

Bouncy chair
For playtime, little naps and being positioned around the house!

Bounce and Swing

Swing
For napping and relaxing and resting Mummy’s arms.

Baby Carrier / Sling
For Matilda Bump we have a Baba Sling (series of posts and reviews coming soon!) and a Hug A Bub which we used with Esther and William. David really liked the Hug A Bub but I did not get on with it at all mostly as it was too complicated to get on and off quickly for feeding. For longer walks and periods of baby wearing I do have my eye on a few other carriers including these wraps from Granny Greedor!

Melba Nursing Pyjamas
Full review of these gorgeous oh so comfortable nursing pyjamas coming very soon!

Muslin squares
Muslin squares are a necessity for all new mummies. They can be used for an extraordinary array of jobs including the ever so glamourous mopping up of milk and sick. You can buy basic muslins from just about any baby shop or supermarket and can get some beautiful ones from Mamas and Papas and even organic ones from companies such as The Little Green Sheep.

A Decent Change Bag
I have already introduced readers to my gorgeous new changing bag from Pink Lining. It is currently packed and in the car as my hospital bag and will be repacked when we get home as my changing bag for my three little Squidgers under two! Eek!

Baby Wrap Summer Sun Protection from Baby Rug
Every year we go on holiday with the extended Henley family and this lightweight baby wrap would be perfect for protecting our summer baby from wind and sun and rain during days on the beaches of Devon.

Dribble Bibs
I have found these to be the best bibs on the market as they are functional but also look adorable in all seasons.

A Bumbo!
Though this will not be needed straight away it is definitely something to have for when the time is right.

Billy Bumbo!

There are so many things that I could add to this list.

When Matilda arrives I am going to blog about my best baby products as I find and use them so please do follow the blog and share our journey and discoveries with us.

One week to go!

  1. Hi Jennie, your babies Esther and William are very cute. I am glad to see your post as you described very well about the nourishment of your twins. Really this pram is too good and gives more comfort to babies. Thanks for your wonderful post.
