Learning Through Play: Water

Playing with Water

Water Together

Esther and William adore being outside and we are lucky enough to have a lovely little garden with our water table in it and some swings. Come rain or shine we play in our garden every single day.

Wet Feet!

One of our favourite things to do is play with water. Esther and William love the water table we were sent to review for Toys R Us last year but they are equally happy with our Flexibath or the old bathroom bin.

Bubbly Water Table

With a range of garden toys, bath toys, water toys and cuddly toys! We are learning through our play.

Last week we played a lot with bubbles. This week we are focusing more on straight water play.

Through our games and discussions Esther and William are exploring concepts such asempty and full, hot and cold, wet and dry, floating and sinking. They are also learning to use their imaginations and to share. William frequently offers me dirty water table water as a ‘hot cup of tea’!

Floating and Sinking (Poor Sheep!)

At the moment we are part of the Munchkin Mummy Facebook campaign and we have been testing some of their bath animals. These have been great for creative play and for simply introducing the idea of habitats.

Esther and William love these squishy squirty sea creatures. I hide them around the garden for them to find.

Today we put them in the bottom of a bucket and we filled the bucket with water until the creatures reached the top. Poor Baa Baa Black Sheep did not make it. He was a sinker not a floater!

Esther and William’s language has come on so much in recent weeks from reading lots of stories but also I am certain from fun activities like this.

Water and Sunshine!

Can’t wait to get out there again tomorrow for more water play. I am looking forward to extending and developing our play over the summer using some of these fab ideas for fun with water.

Can’t wait for Matilda to be able to join in too!
