Matilda Mae Welly Walk: It’s Coming Together

On Saturday I spent the day at Beale Park planning the Welly Walk with the events coordinator there, Nellie Williams.

I walked the route of the welly walk itself and planned where all the different parts of the family fun day will be.

I am hoping to get tickets on sale this weekend as we have less than two months to go.

If you are thinking of coming along to our charity event then this is what you can expect to find there.

Beale Park opens at `10am and your ticket will give you entry to the park all day.

When you arrive you will find a special ‘Matilda Mae’ entrance where we will have people waiting to welcome you and give you an information pack for the day.

Just before you come into the park you will see the Dads’ / Men’s Welly Wanging Competition. Make sure that any male members of your party have a go as the prize is a holiday for two with Potters Holidays on the Norfolk Coast!

Once through the entrance you will enter our Courtyard Market where we hope to have a few stands and stalls for you to browse and perhaps some games for you to play.

Included with your ticket will be one ride on The Beale Park Miniature Railway.

At 11.00am there will be a Gymboree Musical Warm Up taking us up to the start of the Welly Walk at 11.30am.

The walk is through some beautiful water gardens and we will put up some just for fun lullaby and nursery rhyme themed questions along the route.

The walk is very short and as you finish you will be given a pot of bubbles. We will have some people making giant bubbles at the finishing point and hope to have a lovely bubbly time. We are hoping to have some lovely lively music at this point too with Gymboree.

At 12.00 we will start a busy timetable for the rest of the day.

In your information pack when you arrive you will be given a number. 1,2,3 or 4.

To ensure everyone has chance to do everything then you will be given a time to attend each activity. Obviously you do not have to attend everything as there are play areas to be explored and animals to meet around the park. All workshops and activities are optional and there to make the day fun and enjoyable for all.

The four things on offer between 12 and 3 are

The Beale Centre
Here you can grab a hot drink and a snack. There will also be a children’s play area hosted by The Toadstool, an animation station hosted by Zu3D, a fun family dressing up box and photo booth provided by Virtual Booth and sponsored by the awesome Bump PR and traditional family fair games hosted by Beebies Baby Store.

Music with Mummy Workshop
These 30 minute workshops will take place in the Peacock Party room next to The Little Tikes Indoor Play Centre. There will be singing and percussion instruments and bubbles. The theme for the sessions will be nursery rhymes and lullabies and I am certain that they are going to be lots and lots of fun!

Storytelling, Face Painting and Crafts
We have a fabulous storyteller for you, we will have a Barefoot Books stall, a face painter and a craft area which will be hosted by The Rainy Day Box Company who will also have their fabulous Christmas boxes available for you to buy. These activities will take place in the lovely old Toy Museum.

First Aid Workshop
We are hoping to be able to offer each family a free first aid workshop to cover the basics of baby, toddler and child first aid.

At 3.00pm we will start the ladies and children’s welly wanging competitions.

Ladies, you can win a pair of Livie and Luca shoes of your choice.

The children will also have a chance to win a pair of Livie and Luca shoes along with lots of other spot prizes from Warner Brothers and Slugs and Snails.

At 4.00pm we will have our grand prize giving ceremony and we are also going to have an author reading by Sophia Moseley.

For our final farewell we will ask everyone to come outside and line the lake, everyone will be given sparklers kindly provided by Kyna Boutique and we will send a lit boat out on to the lake and wave our sparklers as we take a quiet moment to think of Matilda Mae. Classical Babies will play Twinkle Twinkle and In The Night Garden and then we will all go home knowing that through our day of family fun we may just have saved a life and we will have honoured a life that ended far too soon.

As you leave through the special Matilda Mae exit you will be able to collect a pink or purple balloon and a very special Matilda Mae star sponsored by the very lovely Ami at Beebies Baby Store.

We are still looking for sponsors for the day and would also love to hear from you if you are a small business who would like to come along and have a stand in our courtyard market.

We would also be interested in hearing from bands who might like to play acoustically outside at the event. It would be lovely to fill the park with music.

If you would like to be involved and have other ways you feel you could help then please do get in touch.

  1. Jennie – apologies but I have been so distracted by our summer of madness that I have only just realised that the welly walk is so close to us! I naturally assumed it would be in Ashford so imagine my excitement when I realised it’s in Reading! YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!! 🙂
I am giving myself, my whole self to you for the whole day, we will of course be there with you, Craig, Evan and I but I am would LOVE to help you with the day. Tell me what you need me to do and I’ll do it!
In the meantime, I’ll try and find some sponsors, someone who will give us something?! advertise on my blog, twitter feed etc … I’m sure someone somewhere can help.
Have you got a photographer for the event? I maybe able to help with that?
Mail me and we’ll talk some more xxx

  2. It sounds like you have a wonderful family day planned – do you have a definite date? I have a weekly family days out Linky on my blog and would like to include your welly walk to help spread the word.

  3. Sounds beautiful and fun at the same time. I think the part of the day by the lake sounds fitting to honour a life taken too soon x

  4. we have bought our tickets, so looking forward to this & doing something positive to help others with the Lullaby trust and remembering your little princess Matilda Mae too.
Now do I need to buy myself some wellies, have missed 42years of not having any that I remember of, so maybe in honour of it being Matilda Maes Welly walk, I will invest at last x
