Our cute cartoon dinosaur friends are ready to romp at the dinosaur rumpus

cute dino friends

Bumpus Jumpus Dinosaur Rumpus
I cannot tell you how much we love this book. We read it and we act it out, we dance, our dinosaurs dance. We shake and we shudder as we rumpus and romp. This a great read aloud book with rhythm, rhyme and a zesty pace. It is also wonderful when accompanied with musical instruments. A raucous dinosaur rumpus! This book is great for teaching children about onomatopoeia.

Katie and the Dinosaurs
We love this book. Katie visits the Natural History Museum with her Granny to see the dinosaur skeletons. One foot into a forbidden corridor and the dinosaurs come alive! Katie has a wonderful adventure with a baby dinosaur all the while being followed by a hungry T-Rex. We have great fun spotting the Tyrannosaurus on every page. A great book with a handy list of dinosaur names and correct pronunciations.

forbidden corridor

Dinosaur Sleepover
I love this book, perfect for any little people worried about going to a party or sleepover at someone else’s house. Reassure your little person with the help of a dinosaur friend.

Harry and the Dinosaurs Make a Christmas Wish
Esther and William love Harry and the Dinosaur books. We have one for most occasions, starting school, birthdays, holidays and Christmas. Children love these books but they are not particularly inspiring or very well written but they have the winning combination of naughtiness and dinosaurs. What more do you need when you are 4?

dinosaur roar

Dinosaur Roar
Dinosaur Roar is a great dinosaur book, a classic that moving with the times now has an accompanying iPad app. I have a long overdue review coming up on the blog of both. This book has fabulous dinosaur illustrations in bold colours. It is a great book for thinking about the characteristics of dinosaurs and for exploring the concept of opposites. William is able to read this book himself now that he is reading ‘proper books’. The rhymes and rhythm really help a child be able to read this book independently.

The Dinosaur That Pooped Christmas
This is a new to us book that will be part of our Book Advent starting on the first of December. It looks fabulous and has been recommended many times by many people.

Super Swooper Dinosaur
This is a great book by Martin Waddell with very sweet pencil crayon illustrations. This is a new book for us but is fast becoming a favourite. I think William would very much like to meet a Super Swooper and become his friend. In this tale of a boy, his dog and his dinosaur friend there is lots of fun and games as the three try to work out how best to play together.

Say Hello to the Dinosaurs
Esther adores books that on the cover declare ‘With glitter on every page’ and so was delighted when this book stated ‘With big scaly dinosaurs on every page!’ And it is filled with big, scaly yet friendly dinosaurs that you do want to wave at and say hello. A simple rhyming text with very pretty pictures that introduces young children to some common dinosaurs. Spinosaurus, Diplodocus (my favourite!), Stegosaurus, Ichthyosaur, Pterodactyl, Triceratops and of course, the Tyrannosaurus Rex. There is a lovely little quiz at the end of the book to check the newly acquired dinosaur knowledge of your little people. A lovely lovely book.

Ten Terrible Dinosaurs
Another winning William combination, numbers and dinosaurs! Ten Terrible Dinosaurs is a brightly coloured, strikingly designed, rhyming versed counting book. Counting down from 10 with prehistoric friends doing silly things. A great book for introducing counting back and subtraction. Can also be used for exploring rhyming words and number bonds to ten. And a fun one for reading out loud.

How Do Dinosaurs Learn Colours and Numbers?
We have a whole series of these ‘How Do…’ books and use them often. This one we linked to our recent dinosaur counting activity. Each picture of a dinosaur is labelled with their name, something I find really useful as my children know far much more about dinosaurs than me! The simple rhyming couplets make this a great book for sharing and fun to read aloud all together.

Dinosaurs Galore!
This is a great collection of dinosaur poems. This book is part of a collection that includes the roarsome Mad About Dinosaurs and Rumble in the Jungle. Giles Andreae is a genius and has long been a favourite author in our house. Esther and William knew Giraffes Can’t Dance off by heart before they were two! This book introduces a range of common dinosaurs using fun pictures, rhythm and rhyme. It also imparts facts that are easy for children to remember, repeat and understand.

Things You Never Knew About Dinosaurs
This is a great book which I have written about on the blog before, here in our Tales from the Tuff Spot Dinosaur Swamp!

Stomp, Dinosaur Stomp!
Do you know the book Dig Dig Digging? It was an early favourite in the readership of Esther and William. Now we have another from the same creators, Stomp Dinosaur Stomp. This is a great book for performing. Stomping round the living room, whacking and swishing. It has striking images of some quite fierce looking dinosaurs but is a riot of a read if done right. Right is loud and fast and with as many actions as you can muster. A fun read for all the family. Bea likes to listen to this one!

Dinosaurs and all that rubbish
I love Michael Foreman and this is one of my favourite books and probably my most favourite dinosaur book. This classic environmental tale is wonderful for making young children begin thinking about looking after the Earth. About the role that they can play in the stewardship of our planet.

… the earth belongs to everyone.
not parts of it to certain people
but all of it to everyone,
to be enjoyed
and cared for…

We are a house obsessed with dinosaurs at the moment and The Works has proved to be one of the best places to feed our craze, and at bargain prices too!

I think that they will do nicely to extend our newest fascination too!
