It is coming!
Bea will soon be one
We are in the midst of birthday planning chaos
Esther and William turn 5 at the end of the month
And 11 days later our beautiful Bea will be one
If you have a first birthday approaching
Or a fifth for that matter
You will find lots of gift ideas
They sell beautiful wooden toys
Slow toys
Traditional toys for a new generation
Here are some of my favourites
For a baby turning one
For a baby becoming a toddler
Eeek!
Twisty Animals
I love these wooden African animals. Three parts screw together to make each animal. They cost £4.50 each meaning that you could buy one as a party gift or for a Chistmas stocking filler or buy a selection. I love that these toys can be used as imaginative characters for play but also these are great tools for developing fine motor skills. Babies will learn to turn Lefty Lucy and Righty Tighty a rule that they can apply for screwing toys, tools and accessories for years to come. Bright and colourful, educational fun.
Peg Puzzle – Shapes
This brightly coloured traditional peg puzzle is one that will grow with your child. I would personalise this for a first birthday by placing a picture underneath each shape. One picture of Mummy, one of Daddy, one of each sibling and perhaps some of favourite toys. I can imagine Bea’s utter delight playing Peepo with the photographs. As Bea gets older I would change the pictures or remove them all together when she is ready to start learning about the shapes and recognising their names. At £11.50 this is a great value toy that will bring years of smiles, plenty of play potential and through play lead to lots of learning. A great toy.
Bespoke Wooden Chairs
Show me a toddler who does not like a seat? As soon as babies can stand and climb their fascination with chairs and benches begins. Wherever we go our children have to test out every bench and seat along the way. I love these beautiful wooden chairs that can be made to order. A birthday throne that can become a storytelling chair, a wishing chair … It can be for anything that you and your children want it to be and I am certain it would be treasured for always. A gift to be enjoyed and handed down through generations.
Frog Skittles
These skittles are very cute and this is such an easy to play, indoor or outdoor, family game. The brightly coloured balls make this set beautiful to display as well as to play. You can even use the frogs to act out favourite stories and songs. Another great value birthday present at just £12.
Grasping Toys
When Bea is in her buggy or car seat she likes having something to hold on to. Something that she can fiddle with, grasp and chew. These wooden grasping toys are brilliant for keeping little hands busyy. My favourite is the fish with the star but the hedgehog is very cute too. A perfect present for a baby.
These are our top five toys for a first birthday from The Wooden Play Den.
