Using washing up liquid

And Halloween cups and tubs

From Tesco

I set up our lovely pink Tuff Spot

With colourful containers of different shapes and sizes

The idea being that through their play

They would explore capacity

Thinking about the volume of liquid each vessel could contain

How many Babycups fill a spider beaker?

How many spider beakers fill the glow in the dark bucket?

I put out different coloured liquids

At Esther’s request

I used washing up liquids

With scents as well as colours

To add the sensory element of our play

This limited the colour mixing opportunities

But meant lots of lovely bubbles

For colour mixing

I would use liquid food colouring

As we did here

Or powder paints

As we did here

William still engaged with mixing our limited colours

Green slime and blood red

And created lots of different colours and shades

To fill the glow in the dark bucket

With different effects

Bea loves pouring

She loves moving liquid from one place to another

During this play

She experimented with colanders

And funnels

I love watching her learning

Making new discoveries

Through watching her siblings

And engaging with them

As well as going off on a toddler tangent

In her independent play

Esther also loved the sieves and funnels

She also liked the novelty nail brushes

And long after the others finished playing

Esther was washing up all the equipment

With the suds and scrubbing brushes

She was having a glorious time

We love water play

And I enjoy putting a seasonal spin on our set up

This was super simple to set up

Easy to clear away

And provided a platform for lots of learning through play
