Here are our

Top Five Things to do when the Lurgy Strikes

1: Watch TV
My children are rubbish at resting. Even when poorly they do not know how to switch off. To help them get the physical recuperation they need when poorly we do let them watch quite a lot of TV. Esther and William like to use their laptops too. We do not have live TV in our house so what we watch is heavily mummy moderated and we aim for things that are vaguely educational. But when one or more of the children are under the weather we do like to snuggle under blankets together and watch TV.

2: Messy Play
I have always said when times are tough get out the tuff spot and I have to say that most of the time it does work. My children love messy and sensory play. Even whey they are poorly they like to play. Trying things like lavender playdough or warm water play when children are poor can be really soothing.

3: Feast on Fruit
Boost the immune system with a rainbow of fruit. Fruit is easy to eat, can soothe a sore throat and is pretty to look at. My children love strawberries, blueberries, grapes and other fruits arranged on a pretty shaped plate. Often when they do not have much of an appetitie something that they can pick at is the perfect picnic treat.

4: Snuggles and Cuddles
Offer all the snuggles and cuddles that they need. Snuggle in bed with books, lie on the sofa and listen to music, if they are up to it take a blanket outside, lie on the grass and gaze at the clouds. Let them cuddle up and snuggle in as much or as little as they need.

5: Sweet Treats
A mug of hot Ribena, a cupful of mini marshmallows, an ice lolly. Things to soothe sore bits and ease the horrible yuckiness of feeling unwell. A little bit of sugar helps the medicine go down!
