10 Low Cost Home Improvements

Spring is in the air today

We are approaching a year

Since we packed up and moved out of our house

Ready for renovation work to begin

We ended up out of the house much longer than anticipated

Spent far too much money

And moved back in just before Christmas

With our dream house far from finished

Now that Spring is in the air

And we are just nine weeks away

From the arrival of our new baby

I want to try and make the best of our home

Which does look amazing

And the work already done is just wonderful

A whole new magical family home

But there are still little things we can do to make it even better

Here are some ideas that might be useful for you too

A lick of paint goes a long way
You should never underestimate the power of paint. If you have a room in your home that is looking more than just a little bit tired, why not see if paint could be the answer? Not only is painting relatively easy and quick to do, but with so many different choices out there in paint brand, you may just find that it doesn’t cost as much as you expect.

Update your cabinets
One of the costliest rooms in your home to renovate and refresh has to be the kitchen. However, it doesn’t have to be that way. Feeling that your cabinets are the problem? Well, as long as they are structurally sound, you can always just give them a revamp instead of buying new. This could come in the form of a lick of paint on the doors, or perhaps some new handles. Both of which can have a huge impact without having a huge cost.

Install some new sockets
Plug sockets can sometimes end up looking worn and tired, as well as dirty too. The great news is that sockets are not that expensive to replace, you can even upgrade to modern USB charging sockets, which not only give a great look, but also are incredibly useful too.

Replace your door
Sometimes how your home looks from the outside can affect how you feel when you step inside. This means that investing in a new front door could be the change that you need. It may have a cost associated to it, but it could have a huge impact on how you feel when you get home every day!

Give your garden a good old clean

Install some extra storage
This is particularly true for kitchens or bathrooms, where storage is vital. The best thing about storage is that you don’t have to have too much room to install it in. Corners, cubby holes and empty wall spaces, these can all have shelves on them, which not only look great, but give you the storage space that you need too.

Shine some new light
Your lighting fixtures can have a real impact on how your home looks. So, why not take a look at how you can update them? There are some inexpensive lighting options that you can install into your home, and not only will they look great, but having better quality light is likely to have your home shining bright too!

Get your carpets cleaned
Much like your decking and patio, sometimes all your carpets need is a good clean, rather than being replaced. You can either choose to do this yourself by hiring a carpet cleaning machine, or you can see the deals that professional cleaning companies in your area have. You may be surprised by just how little this service costs, and how much of a change it can make.

Bring in a backsplash
Think your kitchen could do with a touch of colour? Why not install a backsplash into the room. Often tiled, these are not only easy to put in place, but can also be cheap to do too. Best of all, having a backsplash will protect your walls, and make sure that you don’t have to paint them over and over again.

Make your own textiles
Are you an arty and crafty type of person? If you feel that your home needs a refresh, why not use your skills to put this in place? Sew a cushion cover, create a piece of wall art or maybe paint a mural on the wall. Whatever you do, not only will you be flexing your creative muscles, but you will be making sure that your home looks beautiful too.
These are just some of the ideas that you can put in place in your home. All of these ideas save you money and have a huge impact, exactly what you will want when it comes to home improvements. Keeping you out of debt and making sure that you are happy in the home that you live in.

  1. This is great. I adore the striped unbiased cover – we’re hoping to change our corridor floor coverings right now and continue indicating Ollie photographs of striped ones and he never appears to “get” how it will look in our own however this is the nearest I’ve gotten to him saying yes!

  2. Thanks for the tips. In the bid of saving money, some people opt to handle the improvement projects on their own which isn’t wise. In addition to wasting a lot of time, they also end up spending a lot of money as they have to repeat the work. To be on the safe side you should hire an expert contractor to handle your home improvement project.

  3. Preparing for a remodeling project is a lot like preparing to buy a car. You may know the room and style you want, but the options you choose may drive the price higher than you can reasonably afford. But there are ways to stretch the remodeling budget and end up with stylish results within budget.
