Leapin’ Lizards! We got Annie!
Last week Edie and I had a first class ticket to 1930s New York to see the new touring production of Annie The Musical.
It was a wonderful production filled with all the songs and catch phrases we know and love from one of the most famous musicals of all time. This show made me laugh and cry as the familiar story played out with new energy and some of the brightest stars of tomorrow bouncing on their beds, making mischief and tugging on heart strings.

The highlights of the show for Edie and I were the scene at The White House, particularly President Roosevelt asking his advisors to sing and harmonise, and the radio broadcast leading into You’re Never Fully Dressed Without A Smile.

All the orphans were fabulous and played their parts to perfection but little Molly was quite the scene stealer. Young actor Jemima Lown is so cute, had great comedic timing and was just such a delight to watch.

Alex Bourne was a brilliant Daddy Warbucks and Tanisha-Mae Brown shone as the dreamy Grace. She has such a graceful stage presence, a warm smile and a stunning singing voice. The two together were a perfect pairing.

La Voix was the perfect Miss Hannigan, hilariously horrible and fabulously funny. A wonderfully brilliant, all singing, all dancing baddy though the true villain of the night was definitely Rooster. He was a charismatic character, a dazzling dancer and owned the stage during the Easy Street routines. Rooster and Lily were Edie’s favourite adults in the show but her absolute favourite was Annie and Sandy the dog!

Annie the Musical is a show for all the family, filled with heart and humour and a whole help of nostalgia. It features an incredibly talented ensemble cast who play all manner of characters and fill the stage with music and dancing and absolute joy!
Set during dark days from our history, performed during dark days of our present, this show, this cast gave us all a chance to dream of a better tomorrow. We all wore our smiles from ear to ear throughout the show and sang and danced all the way home, knowing that the sun will come out tomorrow.
Oh my goodness! What a show! What a night!
Thank you so so much to The Marlowe Theatre for our gifted tickets.
You can see Annie and experience the fun, laughter, singing and dancing for yourselves as the tour continues around the UK.
