Instruments I have played: Recorder, violin and guitar; sadly I do not play any of them anymore but I do love to sing!

What makes you run late: Being unorganised, the Internet

Xrays you have had: Wisdom teeth, wrist (possible fracture from roller skating) possibly more just before birth of babies but I don’t remember

Yummy food you make: Stir fries and fajitas. Nom Nom!!

Zoo Animals: I love penguins and giraffes

Looking Back On My Childhood Days

For Mumra Playlists 8 we have been asked to recall songs from our childhood. I was brought up on 50s and 60s music from Eddie Cochrane to The Everley Brothers, Connie Francis to Brenda Lee, Buddy Holly to Fats Domino. My parents loved their music and we had countless mix tapes played over and over in the car.

But I am looking further back than our long car journeys, I am remembering being a very small child in the bath with my Daddy singing to me, songs that I still sing with Esther and William now.

Songs that for me should feature in every childhood as they are about hopes and dreams and family.

Mumra’s School Disco!

For Mumra’s 7th playlist she is asking us to reveal our school disco tracks.

I have two; a dance track that for me signifies the start of my disco career and the first song that I can remember slow dancing to in the school hall.

Both tunes remind me of my time at Edinburgh School in Munster,Germany and I guess at this time I would have been in Years 7, 8 and 9.

The dance style of the moment was The Running Man!

Madonna was enjoying a revival.

My full school disco playlist would include many many classic early 90s tunes but these two define, for me, discos at school.

Secret Gardens and Fairy Hobfathers!

Being a Mummy to twins is hard work at the best of times and at the worst of times it can be exhausting. I have found myself close to tears on occasion and in need of a pick me up. This week I have made two wonderful discoveries just when I needed them most. A secret garden and my very own Fairy Hobfather!

Charing’s Secret Garden
I have lived in Charing for over 2 years, I have been roaming it with my double buggy for over 6 months, and yet I have never before visited the secret hidden walkway through the alderbed meadow. I found it completely by accident and it totally made my day. I have found a beautiful, peaceful place where I can walk with Esther and William enjoying the natural sights and smells of bluebells, buttercups, snowdrops and garlic. There are sparkling streams and winding paths over rickety bridges through the towering trees. It was a wonderful way to waste half an hour. I was also able to secretly practise my photography as we had the whole place to ourselves. Such a wonderful surprise and a place we will visit when we are searching for peace or space to think. Our very own secret garden, the Charing Alderbed Meadow.

The Fairy Hobfather
After a weary week of wisdom tooth woe I was cheered up by an email from the friendly Fairy Hobfather. Otherwise known as Ian Goodall this Master of Appliances makes it his business to keep a careful eye on Mummy Bloggers and reward them for no reason at all. What a lovely man and such a very kind thing to do. My email was waiting in my inbox when I returned from a few days in Cornwall. During our stay away the babies had been swimming for the very first time and they loved it. They particularly enjoyed their turn in their shared swimming float. The Fairy Hobfather is sending me £15 of Amazon vouchers which will be just enough to buy a second swim float so that both twins can enjoy this favoured treat at the same time. Thanks to The Fairy Hobfather!

Musical Memories – New Beginnings

My whole reason for starting blogging was to welcome Esther and William to the world. My beautiful daughter and her brother, my son, born on the 24th July, 13 weeks too soon. They spent 59 days in NICU and looking at them now, you really would never know.
My musical memory is of the beginning of their tiny lives and the soundtrack to those early days.
