Our Friday Edventure: Gruffalo Hunting at Bedgebury Pinetum

We are very lucky to live just 30 minutes from

Bedgebury Pinetum

This is one of our handful of happy places

Somewhere we know well

Somewhere we can always find a quiet spot

Just us

No matter how full the car park

How busy the play area

There is always peace to be found at Bedgebury

Adventure always awaits

Babies, toddlers, tweens and teens

Parents and grandparents

There is something for everyone at Bedgebury

This summer there has been a wonderful pinecone trail to follow

And a host of new Gruffalo sculptures to hunt

We are members at Bedgebury

So visit as often as we can

It is a lovely place to go for breakfast

And an early morning play

It is great to take a picnic

And follow one of the many different paths and trails

It is a magical place to wander and roam

To get lost

We always take books and art materials

And a pack of googly eyes for making forest art

(We never leave anything in the forest, we take all our materials home)

Here we are in the woods at Bedgebury

As if all of the above were not enough

You can also explore the pinetum

By going on a Gruffalo Sculpture Hunt

There are seven sculptures to find

If you want to go on a Gruffalo hunt

You will need to collect a map from The Visitor Centre

The map is very detailed with a description of where each sculpture is

They are not easy to find

But we like the fact that this trail takes you to far reaching points of the pinetum

That you might not otherwise explore

I think we walked about two miles in total

And we got a little lost

But we did the whole thing with a buggy

That has a dodgy wheel

The children loved the freedom of the forest

And we hardly saw anyone else while on our hunt

Which was very special and magical

We had such a wonderful family adventure

I was very glad to have David with us to be in charge of navigation

We will definitely be going back again

Without Daddy to see which of the sculptures we can find on our own

This Gruffalo Hunt is challenging enough for older children to enjoy

As well as magical enough for the littlest people

Edie loved every single moment

And exclaimed with joy on finding all the characters

We loved roaming the forest

We had a quality morning together as a family

I know that Bedgebury have had feedback from families

Saying that the sculptures are too tricky to find

And too far apart

But we think they are perfect

Brilliantly hidden

It would be a shame to make them easier to locate

There are already play trails and The Highway Rat trail

Which are easier and quicker to complete

This is more of a challenge

And fun for all the family

Family Fun with Fox

We will definitely be back

And we highly recommend that you give Bedgebury Gruffalo Sculpture Hunt a try too
