The Snowman and Us

This year will be our 11th year of seeing

The Snowman Ballet

10 of those years have been at The Sadlers Wells Peacock Theatre

And 2020 we watched the ballet online

As we all faced Christmas in Lockdown

The Snowman is hugely important to us as a family

Every Christmas Eve we watch The Snowman together

From the twins’ first Christmas

When they were in our arms

Until now

At the age of 15

They still will not go to be on Christmas Eve without watching The Snowman

And our advent adventures

Our Advent For Tilda

Cannot begin each year

Before our trip to the ballet

To The Snowman

Our Baby Tilda was born on the 2nd May 2012

She had one Christmas with us before she died

And at 7 months old she fell in love with

The Snowman and

The Snowman and The Snow Dog

Which was brand new out that year

When she died on the 2nd February

We nearly used the music from the The Snowman and The Snow Dog

At Tilda’s goodbye

She loved those animated shorts so much

And now they will always be extra special

For us

Because of her

Every year we are lucky enough to attend the ballet

As guests of the theatre

And it means the world to our family

To have grown up with The Snowman

The ballet is a wonderful first ballet for young children

But it is a magical show for all the family

The story and score are weaved together so beautifully

The snowy scenes are beautiful

The character dances are wonderful

The ballet dancing is stunning

There is, of course, flying

Belly bumping penguins

And a real motorbike on the stage!

This ballet offers tender moments

Huge dollops of humour

And more than a little silliness

And also …

Father Christmas himself and SNOW!!

Every year as the season draws nearer

We get so excited for our trip

Through Covent Garden to

The Snowman

We love arriving at the theatre early

To soak up the atmosphere

And read the programme

We always take at least one version of the story book with us

To read together on the train

We like going into the auditorium with plenty of time

To snow watch and people watch

And to snap some photos too

Often at the interval there is a meet and greet

With The Snowman himself!

If you are looking for a new tradition

With the littlest people in your life

I wholeheartedly recommend going in to London

To see The Snowman

When you leave the theatre you will be

Walking in the air!
