What Were You Thinking!

This post is inspired by the new fun linky over at The Real Super Mum and also my entry for the Tots 100 April Blog Hop where we have been encouraged to share a moment of fashion shame. As a child of the 80s I have many clothing skeletons in my closet but this one in particular haunts me to this day!

When I was little and living amongst military families in Cyprus fancy dress children’s parties were all the rage. In particular for birthdays and of course, for Halloween. Everyone always had fabulous costumes and we always had lots of fun.

I used to love Halloween parties as a kind. Biting donuts hanging on a string, dunking for apples, trying to bite a penny out of a mound of flour, lots of messy messy games!

One party in particular I remember when I was 7 or 8 years old. My Mum dressed me up as a witch. For my costume she very creatively used a black bin bag.

Did I mention that we lived in Cyprus? A Mediterranean island where even in Autumn it can be quite warm. Did I mention the games, messy and wet? Everyone came prepared and underneath their ghost, witch, wizard or cat suit they had their ordinary wear. Everyone that was except me who underneath a black bin sack had on nothing at all. The moment of having to take off that sack through heat and mess has stayed with me for always. Why was I not wearing anything underneath?????

Mother, what were you thinking???

Poor little 7 or 8 year old me, what was I thinking?
