Matilda Mae Welly Walk: 5 Sleeps To Go

This week is half term

Lovely long days with my gorgeous twins

Working hard to create a party for an angel

For our Matilda Mae

I am going to be exhausted come Sunday

But it will be worth it if the day is as wonderful as it is in my head.

If you are coming I just want to wish you a wonderful day.

Beale Park opens at 10am and the walk events begin at 11.

From 10am you can arrive at the park and have a look around.

As you park your car why not ask a Kiddicare expert to give your car seat a quick safety check?

It is always best to be as safe as we can possibly be.

Make your way to our very special Matilda Mae entrance

You will see our pink and purple welcome banner!

Sponsored by Beebies Baby Store and The Essential One.

Before entering the park make sure any adult males in your party

There are three great prizes up for grabs

A Humira Free Sat Box with various extras and installation

A Powakaddy Micra Manual Golf Kart donated by Lucy Young

All of this on offer, before you even enter the park.

We will be charging people to play our games and competitions

But every single penny you spend will go directly to The Lullaby Trust

When you come into the park

At this point we will give you an information pack

And some very special tickets

Your event ticket which you will need to show to gain entry to The Beale Centre, our hub of fun and games

Your food and drink has been sponsored for this event by the fab three that are Two Ten, Karisma Kidz and Quibly. Each of these companies will have a stand at the event so please do come along and chat to them to find out more about what they do.

And your train tickets to let you have one free ride on The Beale Park train!

None of the activities and refreshments on offer would have been possible without our fabulous sponsors. So many wonderful companies have sponsored the event and donated amazing prizes for our games and competitions.

Zu3D, Kids One Stop Shop, Kyna Boutique, Mama Jewels, Fisher Price, ELC, Mothercare, Baba and Boo, Ruby and Ginger, Livie and Luca, Princess and the Frock, Sports Direct, thank you all so so so so much.

All of the companies mentioned in this post and more have made themselves known as Friends of Matilda Mae and I am looking forward to telling you much more about them all in the weeks and months to come.

Back to the walk!

At 11.00 Gymboree will be leading a muscial warm up

Before we all do the Matilda Mae Welly Walk

Through the beautiful water gardens.

At the end of the walk you will all be given pots of bubbles

There will be music

And giant bubbles kisses will be being sent to Baby Tilda in the sky.

At 12.30 all our workshops and activities begin

There are four sessions throughout the afternoon (12.30, 1.15, 2.00 and 2.45) and you can choose what you would like to do for each one

Thanks to Little Scribbles Stories and Barefoot Books you will also have chance to plant your very own magic bean to take home with you and add a wishing leaf to our magic beanstalk carrying wishes to Baby Tilda in the sky. The storytelling tent is going to be a magical place with soft flooring and beanbags provided by Fisher Price UK.

Heartstart Reading CPR demonstrations
Would you know what to do? Come and talk to the team and be sure that you would!

Fun and Games in The Beale Centre
The Beale Centre is where you can come along and have a cup of tea with the team from The Lullaby Trust. The children can play and try out toys from The Toadstool while you try and win their Christmas lists on Beebies baby Store‘s fabulous fair ground games. This carousel of activities will end at 3.30pm when you will have your last chance to enter the ladies and children’s (of all ages) welly wanging competitions.

They will start at 3pm. And we have the most awesome prizes up for grabs!

Aged 4 and under we have awesome prizes for you too from Slugs and Snails, Livie and Luca and Daisy Chain Baby.

It is definitely worth finding these competitions by the sand pits and the playing areas. So much to win and nothing to lose by coming along and having a go!

Around 4pm we will have our prize giving led by myself and the lovely, Susanne, I am sure with some willing little helpers as prize deliverers! Once all the prizes have been given out Susanne, Ghostwriter Mummy, will introduce our very special guest, Francince Bates, CEO of The Lullaby Trust. We are very honoured to have her with us for the day with some volunteers from the trust so do please take an opportunity to talk to them and find out more about the incredibly important work that they do. Francine will say a few words to everyone before our final goodbye of the day begins.

This part of the day has changed from our original plans. I hope the changes are okay.

Classical Babies will play a short concert of lullabies for us all to enjoy, ending with Tilda’s Twinkle Twinkle and of course, In The Night Garden. During this time we would love for you all to blow bubble kisses to Tilda and all her angel friends in the sky. I know that I am not the only grieving mother attending the walk on Saturday. After the music I would like to read a bedtime story, How To Catch A Star by Oliver Jeffers and to offer you all the opportunity to catch your very own star, and balloon, as you leave the event and the park.

Heather, SAHM and Loving It, will then introduce our final farewell.

With sparklers and a loudly played version of Firework, we will salute two very special MMs in the sky.

I think as this day closes and I count the very few hours til Tilda will have been dead longer than she was live, I will be grateful for having this day, for being surrounded by friends and family, and hope that somehow we can carry on and make things kind of okay.

And Sunday does not bear thinking about, dead longer than alive, taking down the pink and purple and returning Beale Park to it’s natural Tilda less state, mirroring our own Tilda less lives.

What a hole she has left in our world!

Our darling, beautiful daughter

Our magical Matilda Mae.

  4. I am really hoping to come to your special and poignant event for Matilda Mae. We live a long way away and so have not bought tickets in case circumstances change but just wondered if we can turn up and be involved or if we need to book in advance? I have recently followed your blog and having a one year old myself have found it incredibly moving and your unspeakable experience has helped increase my awareness of the dangers of SIDS. I often read your posts, moved to tears, wanting to write a comment but no words seem appropriate. Just wanted you to know that you and the very beautiful Matilda Mae are often in my thoughts and hope to be able to help make a difference, however small, by supporting you on Saturday. Best wishes, Debbie

  7. Jennie I can barely believe it is almost 9 months. I know Saturday will be a wonderful event and I hope there can be moments of magic for you in what is otherwise such a fundamentally bleak day. But may the future yet be bright for you and yours. Whatever good things can still be in store – may they find their way to you xx

  9. Hey Jennie, I’m so sorry we are unable to join you tomorrow. It sounds like it’s going to be an amazingly special day. I truly hope it turns out to be everything you want it to be. My girls and I will be wearing pink and purple with stars, we will be going on our own mini welly walk and we shall definitely be blowing bubbles up to the sky for Tilda….can’t believe she’s been gone for 9 months. Sending my best wishes as always xxxxx

  10. it all sounds amazing, trying to print off the tickets and find my 5yr olds welly’s thankfully we are not far from Beale park.
Its an amazing day you have arranged, in memory of your Matilda Mae and although soon she will be gone longer than she was here, her memory lives on clearly & brightly and always will, she will be in your heart close forever more & she will be watching over you & your family x

  11. Hi I hope you dont mind me writing but a friend shared your ‘welly walk’ on her facebook page, it took my by surprise the name of it as my little girl is called Matilda Mae and her 3 year old brother also calls her Tilda, after reading your blog I was saddened to read the your beautiful Matilda Mae had passed away, I think there was also one months difference in age, our little girl was born 17th April 2012, 36 hours later she was diagnosed with Down Syndrome, and she is just perfect.

both my parents are stars in the sky and I am sure they will be looking out for your beautiful Matilda Mae

    with love to you Kathryn
