Babar The Elephant

We have been enjoying some lovely books about Babar The Elephant.

Do you know Babar?

Babar The Elephant lives in the jungle as a young elephant.

Until one day a hunter shoots and kills his mother.

Very frightened Babar runs away and ends up in the city where a rich old lady takes him in and looks after him.

Babar gets clothes, learns table manners and adopts human habits and mannerisms.

It is all really quite surreal but perfect for the preschooler mind.

After some time Babar returns to the jungle to share all that he has learned.

He marries his cousin, Celeste, and they become King and Queen of the Elephants.

The Babar books are beautifully written and are classics that all children should read.

Esther and William have really enjoyed the stories that we were sent to review.

Babar’s Travels tells of the King and Queen’s honeymoon travels and how they end up returning to the land of elephants with the help, once again, of the rich old lady.

There is also Babar The King and Babar At Home.

Our favourite book by far at the moment though is Babar’s Counting Book by Laurent De Brunhoff.

Esther and William, particularly William, adore numbers. And letters, but especially numbers.

The Babar Counting Book is great for learning to count to 20 and understanding how teen numbers are made up.

Babar’s children go out for a walk and they count the things they see to tell their Papa when they get home.

Each number is given in words and digits and accompanied by a traditional Babar style illustration.

After counting up to ten there is a large picture with counting questions to show off your new counting skills.

Then there is a wonderful double page spread which clearly and colourfully illustrates how 10 and 1 make 11, 10 and 2 make 12 and so on.

Again the numbers are in words, digits and illustrations.

It is a charming counting book for young children and comes with a royal certificate for your little one to celebrate them being able to count to 20.

Esther and William can now use the concept illustrated in the book to count to 30 and beyond.

They love exploring rules and patterns with number and can make numbers all the way up to a hundred now.

This book is a wonderful first building block in a toddlers counting journey.

We have loved reading and reviewing these Babar Books.

We are sure that your little people would love them too.
