Five For a First: Shape Sorters

Bea is rapidly approaching her first birthday

She will be 10 months in a couple of weeks

Now that we are past the 9 month milestone

We are hoping beyond hope that our beautiful Bea

Will see and survive her first birthday

With hope in our heart

And allowing ourselves just a little excitement

We are tentatively planning parties and presents

I have already shared my water table findings

And today I am sharing Shape Sorter ideas

This will be her birthday present

From her little big sister

Matilda Mae

Here are five more shape sorters

Perfect presents for a first birthday

Shape Sorter Snail

shape sorter snail

I adore this Hape Snail Shape Sorter from Wicked Uncle Toys. I would be overjoyed if someone bought this for Bea on her birthday. The pull along snail moves smoothly on wheels, the round drum spins as the snail moves. The drum detaches from the snail to be used as a traditional shape sorter. The snail with it’s wibbly wobbly eyes is well made and has great character. I am certain any young toddler would soon think of this walk along shape sorter as a friend.

Shape Sorter Mouse

How cute is this mouse? Perfect in pink and purple for our baby, with more than a nod to Matilda Mae in the sky. This shape sorter has six shapes including the moon and a star. The shape sorter by Orange Tree Toys is great for developing hand eye coordination and to help children learn to identify some simple shapes. I really like this version of a classic toy.

Haba Shape Sorter Curioso

I love Haba toys and this shape sorter available from Funky Moose is just fabulous. I love the carry basket shape and can just imagine Bea toddling around with this on her arm. The coloured shapes have interesting things to look at and they also make sounds. This is so much more than a shape sorter it will provide a sensory experience and encourage imaginative play. Makes a lovely looking gift for a special occasion too.

Bigjigs Shape Sorting Bus

shape sorter bus

This Bigjigs Bus Shape Sorter has long been a favourite in our house. We have had this since Esther and William were one I think?

A wooden bus shape sorter that is filled with animals. This is a fabulous toy as we use it as a shape sorter, a push along bus, a ride on bus and we use the wooden animals to draw around or push into play dough. It is a very versatile toy in our house and one again that is used every day.

The London Bus is a great size to push around the playroom, all the animals are recognisable and have their names written on them. This is a great toy with so much potential for play. It enables children to practise hand eye coordination, fine and gross motor skills as well as developing their problem solving skills and animal vocabulary. A family favourite that I would encourage others to buy for their little ones.

Bigjigs do a brilliant farm shape sorter too and you can read our review of one here

Shape Sorter Train

shape sorter train

Bea would be the absolute envy of her big brother riding around on this train shape sorter! By Bigjigs and sold at The Mulberry Bush this is a wonderful shape sorter for any little train enthusiasts. This is such a great toy. A ride on, trains to move along a wiggly track, shapes to sort and post and beads to play with too. This toy is great for exploring colour, number, shape and more through the theme of trains. A great toy that will grow with your little one.

These are five shape sorters that look great educational fun for babies turning one.

There are so so many more to be discovered.

Do you have a favourite shape sorter?

Does your little one?

  1. Shape sorters are great! My little boy received one on his first birthday and now can confidently name all the main shapes. He will sit there for ages arranging them all & dropping them through the right holes and occasionally clapping after he has done it, so sweet 🙂 Great birthday ideas for Bea.
