Because I am so pleased with my poem I am submitting this to Blog Gems as my favourite post. I am late with this post as I have been away on holiday but I hope that people will still take … Continue reading
Metal Mummy’s Movie Meme – The 80s
Hello
I am on holiday right now and I am not supposed to be posting but I was just commenting on Metal Mummy’s blog when I decided that this week’s Meme cannot be sat out.
When I saw the chosen topic of 80s movies I immediately thought of The Lost Boys but this has already taken by our hostess so when commenting on the awesomeness of this movie it got me to thinking of two more 80s movies that I loved.
Weren’t 80s movies great? SO many classics now that I begin to think … Short Circuit, Flight of the Navigator, Space Camp, Adventures in Babysitting, Gremlins, The Money Pit, Big, Splash, K9, Heathers … the list goes on and on.
I want to talk about 3 movies though two are linked.
The first is The Goonies starring a very young Sean Astin who of course went on to star as Sam the Brace in Lord of the Rings. The Goonies was a teen adventure movie starring Chunk and Sloth! How can you forgte characters such as these. They are on the hunt for treasure to save their house from being demolished and turned into a country club. A great teen adventure story created by Steven Spielberg. Alongside Sean Astin stars Corey Feldman. I loved Corey Feldman in the 80s, much prefered him to his blonde counterpart Corey Haim. In this comedy adventure he was very funny and so young! Corey Feldman is also of course in The Lost Boys. Such a great movie, see how I can’t stop mentioning it here.
The second and third films that I want to bring to your attention this Meme are Young Guns I and II. What great brat pack movies they were! Emilio Estevez and Kiefer Sutherland being the real stars of the show. Kiefer as Doc and Emilio as Billy the Kid, both very funny with a certain sexiness that a good male lead should command, especially in a brat pack film. The second film had the added bonuses of Balthazar Getty and Christian Slater in the cast and a brilliant soundtrack by Jon Bon Jovi who I adored at the time.
“I’m going down in a blaze of glory …”
There are some great lines in the second film too
“Hello Bob … Goodbye Bob”
“Yoo Hoo, gonna make you famous!”
Judge Bristol: ” …and there be hanged by the neck till he be dead, dead, dead. Now, do you have anything to say, young man?”
William H. Bonney: “Yes I do, your Honour. You can go to hell, hell, hell.”
Such great memories of classic movies. They make me miss my wee sis so much as we used to watch these over and over together and how we laughed!! Love you wee sis x
Metal Mummy, thank you for giving us such a great theme. I am off to buy some DVDs for an 80s movie night x
Creative Courage
After a rubbish day with my sorry swollen face and infected tooth I was very pleased when Manana Mama read my single post of the day, left a comment and revealed that she had also nominated me for an award. I am so happy to receive recognition from a blogger I so admire that if I could grin inanely I would. Ouch!
Manana Mama has the most wonderful photo heading her blog and every time I see it I think that I would like such a photo of Esther one day.
To the award …
The Kreativ Blogger Award
… an award with rules!
1) Link to 10 blogs
2) Tell these bloggers about the award
3) Share 10 facts about myself (without repeating the 7 facts I revealed here!)
So here goes …
1) I do not drink alcohol. I just do not like the taste of it. I have a Baileys hot chocolate once in a while but that is as far as it goes. I often think “I would like to get a bit tipsy tonight” but I never do, but I sometimes wish I did.
2) I am a terrible worrier. I am always worried about what people think of me. What people think of how I do things. It can be quite debilitating sometimes but I cannot help it. I want people to think that I am good at what I do. I care too much.
3) I find it very hard to make and keep friends. I am not very good at small talk or talking to people that I do not know. I think that often I come across as rude but I am not. I just cannot find anything to say that doesn’t seem awkward or silly.
4) I love swimming. I grew up in Cyprus and so became a good, strong swimmer when I was very young. I cannot wait to teach Esther and William to swim. I am lucky that David loves the water as much as me.
5) My dream job would be to be a part of a Theatre in Education company, though I also dream of owning a children’s bookshop that runs reading, writing and drama workshops.
6) I love breastfeeding! I am so proud that I have fed Esther and William so long. Esther also has some food but at almost 9 months William is still all milk! I love them both so much and will be sad when they don’t want to feed anymore.
7) I love singing hymns. We are having 7 at our wedding, all old favourites from primary school. I can’t wait. We want to give all the children at the ceremony instruments so that they can play along.
8) I never used to eat spicy foods and now David and I have chillies in our dinner everyday.
9) I love The West Wing. David and I watch all 7 series over and over again. It is so well written, well cast and well acted. Nothing else on telly compares. It is simply brilliant.
10) I do not really like flowers.
Okay, so that was me, now over to you and I apologise if you already have this award or wish not to receive it. These are 10 blogs I read and enjoy. 10 blogs I recommend to others. 10 creative bloggers!

Introducing My Best Women!
In just 5 months David and I will be getting married. To help us prepare for the day and be with us on the day we have carefully chosen our wedding party.
Today I would like to introduce you to the bridesmaids.
I have chosen five bridesmaids, two flower girls and two page boys. They were all very easy decisions as I would not want to have our big day without one of them there.
Firstly my little sister, Julie.
Julie will be almost 32 by the time we get married but she is still my baby sister, my wee sis. I love her dearly and miss her very much when she is away, which is most of the time as she lives in Australia, with her husband, Hugh. Julie and I are close sisters and good friends. We are very similar in lots of ways and strikingly different in others. Julie is a Vet Nurse and an animal lover. She is always adopting waifs and strays into her home, cats mostly. Really though we are dog people and have both wept buckets reading and watching Marley and Me. Julie makes me laugh more than any other person I know, apart from David actually, and apart from David she is the person in the world I can most totally be myself with, and she loves me no matter what. Just as I love her. She is also a fabulous aunty to Esther and William and is always in our thoughts every day. I really am very lucky and I know that I would not want to have anyone else standing with me on my wedding day. My beautiful wee sis.
Next is Michele.
Michele I have known now for about 6 years and she has played a huge role in my life during those years particularly since meeting David and the birth of Esther and William, her Godchildren. Michele is my rock. She is who I turn to in a crisis knowing that no matter what she will be there. Michele is like the big sister I never had with a bit of motherliness thrown in. I know I can write that and it be okay as I have tried to explain all of this to Michele in the past. She is everything that a person looks for in a friend and more. I cannot imagine my life without her now. She helps me make decisions and advises me on all manner of things. I tell her all my thoughts and ideas, my insecurities and worrries, my hopes and dreams. I cannot find words enough to say how much she means to me and how I would not be where I am today without her constant friendship and support. She is someone else who makes me laugh and can brighten up my day by knowing exactly what to say and when to say it. My friendship with Michele started when she was my Teaching Assistant at Kings Hill. She looked after me in the classroom and then took me in when I had nowhere else to go. She made me believe in myself and helped me to discover the parts of me that David fell in love with. For that I will always be grateful and that is one of the many reasons why our wedding day would not be complete without Michele. And why she was chosen to be Esther and William’s Godmother. Thank you, Michele x
Petra.
Petra and I have been friends since first we met in 1987. We were at school together for the final year of primary and right through to GCSEs. We did everything together for many years and got into all sorts of scrapes and bother. We also had the most wonderful times and made magical memories that we cherish to this day. I am now very proud to call Petra’s daughter, Maia, my Goddaughter and cannot believe that we have changed from little Girl Guides to fully grown up responsible mothers. In what seems like no time at all. I am so so glad that we have stayed friends for over 20 years.
Hannah
Hannah and I started out as colleagues and soon became friends but it was not until leaving the school where we worked that our friendship really began to blossom and grow. Hannah is great to talk to, she is very funny and she has a good heart. Hannah will go out of her way to do things for others and she made sure that after I left Frittenden I was not forgotten and still involved in school and social events. Since the arrival of Esther and William she has been wonderful visiting us in hospital and at home. She is the making of my social calendar!! Hannah is so good with Esther and William, they really do love it when she comes to play. We are hoping to spend lots more time with her in the holidays now we are able to get out and about more.
Francoise
Francoise lives in Grenoble with our best man, Mr Rew. Together they have a beautiful baby boy, Mael, who will be Esther’s and William’s playmate, penpal and friend in the years to come. It is such a shame that this family live so far away as we enjoy their company very much. Francoise is my bridesmaid because she is someone who I can always rely on, day or night, to say something to make me feel better. She is kind, caring and compassionate. She is funny and calming to be around. She is a great friend because she is so thoughtful and very naturally makes you feel at ease. She is creative and we share a passion for theatre and books. And now babies!!! I know that she will make valuable, memorable contributions to our special day.
I am so excited about our wedding, it has already been postponed once when Esther and William came so early, I am so looking forward to our day.
Girls; Let the countdown begin!

015/365 My First Mothers’ Day
A Mothers’ Day Poem
Last month I asked fellow bloggers and friends to give me one word or phrase that described their mum. I said that I would use the words to write a poem for all mothers. You can see the words given here and here is the poem I have come up with. I am sorry that it is not very good. I wrote it in less than five minutes with a very painful and swollen face.
Happy Mothers’ Day!
Happy Mothers’ Day One and All
Happy Mothers’ Day Me
This is my first one of these days
And it means such a lot you see
I want my children to cherish
The relationship that we share
I want them to know on this day and always
That I will ever be there
Being a Mother is a special job
A diverse and flexible role
To support your young and care for them
Protect their heart, their soul
A mother is warm hearted
She is caring and full of love
A mother is the bestest friend you can have
She’ll be there come push or shove
A mother is sympathetic
She’ll listen whatever you say
A mother is inspirational
You hope to be like her some day
A mother is indomitable
She canot be over come
Whatever else in the world she be
She will always be your Mum
I want to be all for my children
Provide everything that they need
I will always be their Mummy
Whatever else in the world I be
I want to keep them safe from harm
Protect them from the cold
I want to have fun and play with them
Until I’m grey and old
I want to share their secrets
Help them achieve their goals
I want to hold their hands as needed
Protect their hearts, preserve their souls
As Mother I am indomitable
I shall not be overcome
My love will not be conquered
I will always be a Mum
Happy Mothers’ Day
Today has been a good day though not the wonderful day that I had planned with my Mothers’ Day Wishes post.
Sadly I woke up with a swollen face and a horrible pain in my mouth. My wisdom tooth has a horrible infection and so we had to swap church for the emergency dentist. I was seen very quickly and an infection was confirmed. I headed out the door laden with antibiotics.
We then headed for Port Lympne where we had a lovely afternoon. Port Lympne is a great day out for all the family. Today we went on the safari and were able to see the giraffes. Esther and William were very well behaved the whole time though it was really rather cold on the truck. We had lunch at the zoo and I fed Esther and Willam whilst watching two lions feed and play. A lovely day.
For Mothers’ Day I was given some lovely presents from Esther and William (and David!) I have a lovely tin of cakes, biscuits and sweets. Yummy! And a gift voucer for a spa day at Eastwell Manor. A whole day to myself with breakfast, lunch, swimming, massage, facial, pedicure and much more. I am so so excited. I am going to take a good book and just indulge myself for one whole day!
I had planned to write so much about this special day but my face is throbbing with the pain of my infected, impacted tooth. I hope that these photos will give you some idea of our day and why I feel so lucky to have such a wonderful fiance and the most beautiful beautiful children.
Happy Mothers’ Day x
