28 Days with Jenny Craig

Well, I began weighing 9st 11lb and I now weigh 9st 7lb, though I have to admit to cheating along the way and so I am certain had I wanted to I could have lost more. This is my final instalment of my Jenny Craig review.

I started the Jenny Craig trial 28 days ago feeling really down about myself and worried that I would not lose enough weight before my wedding to feel confident in my dress. I wanted a weight loss plan that would help me achieve my goals without reducing my life to a diet of salad and a summer of staying at home.

I enjoyed the Jenny Craig trial but I will not be continuing to use this programme as part of my wedding weight loss plan. For me I think it is too expensive, £10 a day to feed only me when I have David and the children to feed also is just too much money. I am not desperate enough to lose weight to warrant that kind of outlay.

I am also, if I am completely honest, not entirely sure about the food. The packets of pre cooked food that are stored in a cupboard remind me of Army compo food or vacuum packs that astronauts take with them into space. Food for extreme circumstances not for everyday living. I like to eat fresh meat and seafood, fresh pasta not ready meals that must surely be packed with preservatives to keep them edible over such a length of time? I have to say that the best bit of the Jenny Craig food was the snacks – potato snacks, cereal bars and chocolate treats comparable with other similar market products.

There are lots of positives from the Jenny Craig plan that I will continue to apply to my every day health and eating regime.
I have swapped sugar for sweetener; I will always check the salt content of foods and go for low salt options; I will exercise portion control; I will eat little and often and I will bulk out my meals with fruits and vegetables that have very little calorific content.

I have also bought a pedometer and plan to go out walking every single day. I also plan to use exercise to counteract any overeating which is something that I have learned from Jenny Craig. It is okay to have a bar of chocolate or a glass of wine as long as you do enough exercise to work off the extra calories you have eaten, or drunk!

I would recommend Jenny Craig to others. The theory about weight loss and maintaining a healthy weight is great, their strategies are easy to follow and the personal support given by telephone consultants really does keep you on track and on your toes. I just feel that for me I would rather do it with my own food and perhaps with either a virtual or real life diet buddy. It does help to talk about your goals and your food habits though. It helped me realise that David and I eat far too much but now that we have that under control I think my pregnancy weight should fall off and stay off. Here’s hoping with every thing crossed!

By using Jenny Craig for just 28 days I believe that I have begun a journey toward a healthy relationship with food, an active lifestyle and a balanced approach to living. The benefits of this programme extend beyond weight loss and beyond the 28 day trial.

  1. Congratulations on your weight loss! Have to say that kind of plan wouldn’t be for me either as I too love cooking and eating fresh food. I find that portion control works really well, and thats with having a bar or 2 of chocolate most days. Why deny oneself? 🙂 Anyway, glad to hear that you got something out of it – sometimes it does take something dramatic to kick start.xXx
