Picnic in the Garden

Exciting times are ahead in the Edspire household (and garden!) as Esther and William are really starting to understand imaginative play and role play. They have so many words, phrases and sentences at their disposal now that every activity is a joy to witness or even better be a part of.

This week we have been making the most of the weather and our garden and learning about picnics!

Last year we were sent a Leap Frog Shapes and Sharing Picnic Basket by Toys R Us to review. Esther and William were really too young to get much out of it then but now they absolutely adore it.

The Shapes & Sharing Picnic Basket helps little learners explore shapes, colours, manners and more! Over 30 audio responses encourage pretend play, and the 14-piece set helps children build motor skills as they sort, match, stack, empty and fill.

This week we have been having pretend picnics on a blanket in the garden. Esther and William love to lay out the cloth and match the food shapes to the same shaped holes on the plates. They love to use the colourful cups and some of our own spoons to pretend that they are stirring a drink or eating yoghurt. They love to take their cuddly animal friends for picnics and will often feed them with berries and pie. Using the giant forks that come with this play picnic set!

Esther and William are learning all about shapes, colours and manners at the moment so this is the perfect toy to help them along their way. They enjoy unpacking the basket and listening to the songs about the different concepts. The toy has also introduced us to the song The Teddy Bears’ Picnic.

The picnic basket is also cleverly able to ask questions again about shapes and colours and food. This is great for toddlers like mine who love any opportunity to show off how clever they are.

The six chunky food items pair with the plates to form two simple shape sorters. Because there are two of everything this is a great toy for twins and Esther and William love to use it both together and on their own. Occasionally they will let Mummy play too!

This Leap Frog toy has really boosted Esther and William’s imaginative play and their vocabulary.

For £20 it is the perfect summer toy to aid learning about that great British tradition the picnic in the park garden!
