Festive Forecast: A Playlist For The Season

Tonight I am entering into the Christmas Spirit with Brit Mums #festiveplaylist Linky to try and win an I Pad Mini for my minis to share. Should I win some Coca Cola then that will be all mine!

So this year and probably every year from now I am going to be designated driver.

On the 23rd of December it will be just one year since I passed my driving test, at the age of 35.

Last year I was too nervous and too pregnant to be driving but now I am more than happy to take the wheel.

Mostly when I am driving I have the children in the car and so I listen to Mr Tumble or another selection box of children’s tunes.

However when I am alone with my foot to the floor (never thought I would ever do that but I do, just occasionally!!) I like to listen to my music.

And at this time of year I have some favourite festive tunes.

My Playlist For The Season!

My top five festive tunes I have talked about before. Last year Listography asked us to share in Sing A Long A Christmas.

I shared the naughty but nice Santa Claus Got Stuck In My Chimney, the military march of Stop The Cavalry, the emotion and beauty of O Holy Night, the heartwarming Little Drummer Boy mixed with Peace on Earth and the wonderful feeling of excitement I get when I first hear It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas!! You can read about these five favourites in my older post. In this post I would like to update my list for 2012.

Not that I know any new Christmas songs because I don’t. My musical tastes lie firmly with Christmases past. A taste that I am hoping will be shared with my children.

Just today I have started singing traditional carols with them in the hope that the melodies will make their hearts sing as much as they do mine.

There is something magical about music at Christmas.

To set the perfect scene for my family this Christmas these are the songs I will share

The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire)
Nat King Cole has such a rich voice. This wonderful song paints the perfect picture of Christmas in my mind. Roaring fires and excited children. Waiting impatiently for Santa with your family all around. I loved Christmas as a child as it was spent with our extended family who we did not get to see very often. Magical memories were made to treasure for always and many of them are shared with Nat King Cole in this song.

Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas
I love Judy Garland so much and I cannot listen to this song without tears filling my eyes. It is such a beautiful song. Whatever is going on in your life put aside some time this Christmas to enjoy the magic of the season and feel peace in your heart. Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year and a reason for letting go of your sorrows and finding some happiness, even if only for a short while.

All I Want For Christmas
Though not a huge Mariah Carey fan there is a hidden Diva inside of me and I do like to have a sing. This is one of my favourites to sing along to in the car. The best thing about this song is it’s use in Love Actually. Now there is a little lady who can sing!

Walking In The Air (The Snowman)

I have always loved The Snowman. The first Christmas that David and I shared we went to see the film shown in a theatre with the soundtrack played by a live, full orchestra. It was wonderful! Now I see The Snowman though eyes anew. Those of my three beautiful children. We watch The Snowman every night before bed time and they love it. They love the boy and the ‘nowman. They tell the story as it unfolds before their eyes and when they are playing they pretend to fly above the skies just like James and his snowy friend. The story and the magical music has captured their hearts and their imaginations. What a wonderful festive family treat. The Snowman.

It’s The Most Wonderful Time Of Year

And this for me just sums up the season. The love, the excitement, the giving, the receiving, the fun and the frolicks, the food and the presents, the children and family, the wonderful memories made with our friends. The warmth, the parties, the dancing, the singing. The lights! It truly is the most wonderful season of all.

So please, have yourself a merry little Christmas this year. I know that we will.

We are already impatiently waiting for Santa and Snow!

Merry Christmas!
