Today We Remember
The Little Life of Matilda Mae

Matilda Mae 02.05.12 – 02.02.13

(1 Samuel 1: 27 – 28) I prayed for this child, and the LORD has granted me what I asked of him. So now I give him to the LORD.

Entrance: Twinkle Twinkle Little Star by The GiggleBellies

Welcome and Introduction

Hymn: Make Me A Channel of Your Peace

Reading: Song of Solomon 2:10-13
My beloved speaks and says to me: “Arise, my love, my fair one, and come away; for lo, the winter is past, the rain is over and gone. The flowers appear on the earth, the time of singing has come, and the voice of the turtledove is heard in our land. The fig tree puts forth its figs, and the vines are in blossom; they give forth fragrance. Arise, my love, my fair one, and come away.

Reading: Please Don’t Cry
Daddy please don’t look so sad, mummy please don’t cry.
Cause I’m in the arms of Jesus, and he sings me lullabies.
Please try not to question God, don’t think he is unkind.
Don’t think he sent me to you and then changed his mind.

You see I’m a special child, I am needed up above.
I’m the special gift you gave Him, a product of your love.
I’ll always be there with you, so watch the sky at night.
Look for the brightest star and know that’s my halo’s brilliant light.

You’ll see me in the morning frost that mists your window pane.
That’s me in the summer showers, I’ll be dancing in the rain.
When you feel a gentle breeze from a gentle wind that blows.
Know that it’s me planting a kiss upon your nose.

When you see a child playing and your heart feels a tug,
Don’t be sad mummy, that’s just me giving your heart a hug.
So Daddy don’t look so sad and mummy please don’t cry.
I’m in the arms of Jesus and he sings me lullabies.

Matilda’s Legacy

Apocolypse 7. 9-10, 15-17
After this I looked and there was an enormous crowd – no one could count all the people.
They were from every race, tribe, nation and language, and they stood in front of the throne and of the lamb, dressed in white robes and holding palm branches in their hands.
That is why they stand before God’s throne and serve him day and night in his temple. He who sits on the throne will protect them with his presence. Never again will they hunger or thirst; neither sun nor any scorching heat will burn them, because the Lamb, who is in the centre of the throne, will be their shepherd, and he will guide them to the springs of life-giving water. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.

“No, No, No, Baby Tilda. No!” Matilda and Her Siblings

Laura’s Star

Reading: 2 Corinthians 4.13-18
And since we have the same spirit of faith, according to what is written, “I believed and therefore I spoke,”we also believe and therefore speak, knowing that He who raised up the Lord Jesus will also raise us up with Jesus, and will present us with you.
For all things are for your sakes, that grace, having spread through the many, may cause thanksgiving to abound to the glory of God.
Therefore we do not lose heart.
Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day.
For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen.
For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.

  1. Dear Jennie, I don’t know you but I read of your tragic news via a Facebook friend and have been reading your tweets and your blog since. As a mother, my heart is breaking for you and your family. Life can be so unjust & cruel.

I wanted to say that your tributes to Matilda Mae are simply beautiful, just like her, and your immense love for her clearly shines through in each and every one of them.

I honestly wish I could take away even an ounce of your pain to help you, your husband, your beautiful twins and your families in these dark times. I hope that you are finding strength and comfort in each other and in your memories of your baby girl.

    You’re in my thoughts.

    M xx

  2. It is perfect. I have my Bible open at 2 Corinthians 4, and was wondering if you were still looking for readings, when this came up in my newsfeed. The photo montages are just beautiful. She is so beautiful x

    • I feel the same way; I didn’t really know the song before but it really is amazing. And now of course every time I hear it I’ll think of Matilda Mae & her incredible smile. She’s changed the lives of so many people.

  4. My heart truly aches for you Jenny and all your family. I have to admit I have found your tweets hard to read at times as my youngest is only a little younger than Tilda and I can only imagine your pain but it also makes me appreciate my babies even when its tough. May you find peace that she was an angel too good for this earth. She is and will always watch over you..x

  5. Wow, words can not describe how beautiful your service for Matilda Mae is. I am also a mother of toddler twins, and i have been following your blog for a few weeks – you and your incredible family have moved me so deeply, i simply can’t imagine what you are going through. 7. Absolutely stunning, a real tribute to your precious girl and I really love the picture of her poking her tongue out 🙂
Everything you have chosen is here a reflects the beautiful times you shared, the full life she lead and your wonderful mothering of her. Her passing is tragic but her life was beautiful and I hope that on the day you say goodbye, amongst the deep sadness the beauty and celebration of her life shines through and reminds you of the good times. They are yours to keep forever xx

  8. I couldn’t even read the whole things as can’t hold back the tears but the little i managed to get through sounds like a beautiful service for your little angel. So much love.

  9. I am just one of many Mummy’s around the world hurting for you. No one knows just how you are feeling, that is your own to have and hold…but I know I speak for each and every Mum that reads your words, we are thinking of you. Matilda has been on my mind many nights now, and it always makes me hurt for you. There is no strength like that of a mother, and your ability to deal with each day since is proof of that. I have no words to offer comfort, I don’t believe there are any, but please know that there are so many of us out here just thinking of you, hoping you will feel our love.
    Love from Canada
    Rebecca

  12. This is just too beautiful for words. Your little girl was and still is truly loved. I am so sorry for your loss, so very sad. Kindness and love……Gillian

  13. I only started following you after your sad news showed on my news feed. You have been amazing and so very brave!
I would be a mess and not be so strong for my other children. You are proving yet again what a wonderful mother you are.
The order of service is so kind and thoughtful you are doing Matilda Mae proud! She will be looking down from heaven thinking my mummy rocks!!!
    Sending love and thoughts
    Xxx

  14. My heart is literally aching for you. What a beautiful baby. I can’t look at the photos and even comprehend that such a shining light has gone out.
It’s utterly heartbreaking. Please don’t ever feel like a bad mother, one day your twins will be older and they’ll see nothing but the immense strength it must have taken you to go on – for them. And they’ll be so proud of you, and their beautiful baby sister.
    Im so sorry.
