Moving Back Home with Beko

Week 11

11 weeks not living at home

Eleven long weeks in a temporary house

With our life on hold

Unable to make plans

Set routines

A journey of uncertainty

Waiting for the building to be done

Soon we will start to think about moving back

Circumstances mean we will not be moving home

To the finished house we hoped for

But it will be finished enough

To live in

And to begin over time making more our home

It is better now than it was

At least it will be

When we move back in

Complications

Unexpected discoveries

And over enthusiasm of ideas

All mean that our money has not stretched as far as we hoped it might

The shape of our home will be ready

But it will be quite hollow inside

Ready to be filled with love

And family life

And ready for interiors to be created

To suit the way we are

The way we live

I have to admit that I had hoped very much

To move back into a completely new and lovely finished home

But that cannot be

So now it is time to plan

How we can make the most of being able to design around our lives

Time to start planning the routines

We all so desperately need

Time to feel we are somewhere that is ours

And not stranded in some distant waiting room

I will be glad to go home

To be where we belong

And I will be so glad to have a garden

Our garden

I will be glad to be home

One part of the house that will be complete

Is the kitchen

And in that kitchen will be the appliances

That make life for a family of five

A little easier

The dishwasher

The fridge freezer

The washing machine

In the future

Not as soon as planned

We will also have a tumble dryer

Which will make a huge difference to out lives

Especially in the winter

The washing machine and tumble dryer

Will actually tuck neatly away

In the utility

The laundry room

For the last three months

We have lived in a house

Where the washing machine is in the lounge

Every evening feels like we are being tortured

The noise and the heat from the wretched machine

With three small children

Home all the time

There is always washing and drying to be done

The same story with the dishes

With so many mouths to feed

So many times a day

The dishwasher is always full

Though our current dishwasher is not actually working

So we have been doing our dishes by hand

We have to wash a few at a time

Leave them out to dry

They never feel as clean

The thing I am most looking forward to having

Is a big American style fridge freezer

fridge freezer

We have never had one before

Everything has always been stuffed into a tiny freezer

And a too small fridge

I have not been able to experiment with batch cooking

Nor have we been able to keep drinks cold

When a weekly shop has just arrived

I am also looking forward to having a large enough freezer

To keep spare bread and milk in stock

I think this newest appliance

Will fast become a favourite

Do you have a favourite kitchen appliance?

I would love to know what it is and why

Am I missing a vital ingredient in my new kitchen?

What is the one thing in your kitchen you would not be without?

This is a collaborative post

  1. I’m in the same predicament as you; our new home is almost built but still so much to do. We’ve outgrown this house, our fridge is tiny, no dishwasher, mountain of laundry on the kitchen floor…
The end is in sight, just think of the positives.

    • I think we knew as time went on that we would run out of money before all the jobs were complete. Building takes longer than we anticipated and we want to move back home. The rest can be done in slow time around us x
