Book Review: Fletcher and the Rainbow

It is feeling very autumnal this morning

So we are going with it and indulging in the latest book

From one of our favourite series

Fletcher and the Rainbow

We adore Fletcher and his nature explorations

He is just my little Edie but in fox form

Curious, adventurous, friendly and creative

This book is beautifully illustrated by the lovely and talented Tiphanie Beeke

It makes me want to take my water colours out in the world

And paint what I see with puddle water or sea spray

The colours in this book are particularly pretty

Edie & I loved racing through the pages with Fletcher

Searching for the rainbows end

Edie was very sad when the rainbow slipped into a stream!

This is a stunning book to ease into autumn stories

Julia Rawlinson’s lyrical text is a joy to read aloud

And Fletcher’s animal friends are all so cute and filled with character

We love them all

The story begins on a grey autumn day

The sun shines through the rain creating a dazzling rainbow

Sunlight on raindrops

Fletcher’s mum explains that the rainbow will not last long

But Fletcher thinks that he might be able to help the rainbow shine forever

With a little help from his friends

He hurries through the wood trying to find the rainbow’s end

The birds send him to hedgehog then onto squirrel and goose

All the animals are making their preparations for winter

Through this story we can learn how rainbows are made

How animals prepare for winter

Which animals hibernate

Which animals migrate.

Little readers can learn about the changing seasons and also about reflections

When Fletcher realises the rainbow has not fallen into the stream

He hurries on through the harebells where his rabbit friends are cloud gazing

He sees the last scrap of rainbow as it fades to grey

And he realises the colourful arch cannot be saved

Fletcher decides to make a very special rainbow of his own

With nature’s treasures from the woods and with a little help from his friends

The autumn rainbow at the end of the story is delightful

And the best inspiration for little bookworms to get outside and make an autumn rainbow of their own

We are definitely going to pull on our wellies this afternoon

And head out in search for signs of autumn to make a rainbow of our own

Fletcher and the Rainbow publishes on the 26th August 2021
