Book Advent: Through The North Pole Snow

Bea’s favourite animal is a fox
After reading Through The North Pole Snow
I think it may become an arctic fox
This is the story of one young fox
Hunting for food in the North Pole snow
And finding so much more
A gentle lyrical tale
With stunning artwork by Richard Jones
Who is fast becoming one of our favourite illustrators

Through The North Pole Snow
Is the perfect festive bedtime story
Adore by my littlest bookworm
Who wanted me to read it again
As soon as the story finished
This is an enchanting story
Full of the awe and wonder
Of the North Pole
The magic of snowy starry skies
And the true meaning of Christmas
This beautiful tale of kindness and giving
This tender story of friendship
May have made me cry
It also made my soul soar
And my heart sing
It is a very special story
It would be the perfect story for Christmas Eve
But equally suited to repeat reads
Through this most wonderful time of the year
(Edie is nodding furiously as I read this out loud!)

The story begins with a little fox
Hunting for her dinner
Edie was delighted to see that the
Hunting style of the arctic fox
Perfectly mirrored what we had seen
On David Attenborough’s Frozen Planet

As the fox hop hop thumps
She makes a hole
That leads her somewhere unexpected
Pulled down by gentle hands
Out of the cold and darkness
Into the light and warmth

Hands unknown to fox
But vaguely familiar to little readers
Clues are given through the words of Polly Faber
And delightful pictures

Could it be?
Is it, maybe?
Giant round belly
Fox-white beard
Snowy boots
Rows and rows of empty shelves
Could it possibly be?

The fox and the tired man
Feast together
Before falling into a long deep sleep
That lasts til winter ends
And the spring sun shines

The man awakens refreshed
And sets to work
Sawing
Hammering
Cutting
Sewing
Stuffing

As the seasons change
The snow returns
And with it
Hundred and thousands of letters
Fall from the sky

The kind man works
And the little fox helps
Until lights dance in the sky
And it is time

And finally the fox
And little readers know for sure
Who the kindly gentle man
Who knows all about getting stuck
Really is

“And when the sleigh was empty
The fox found her heart was full.”

And I am crying again!
This is an incredible story
Filled with all the joy of the season
It has been the perfect way
To begin our advent reading
A reminder of all the magic to come
The excitement and anticipation that will build
The love and kindness that will be spread
This festive season

Through The North Pole Snow
Shares with little readers
And their grown ups
The true meaning of Christmas
