Playing Shakespeare With Deutsche Bank: The Tempest

On Monday Esther, William and I
Headed up to London
To Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre
To see the latest
#PlayingShakespeare production
The Tempest

We love The Globe Theatre
And have seen previous productions
Taken a tour and attended
Drama workshops
Our experience has always
Been brilliant and this time
Was no exception

We loved arriving to
The bustling theatre
Collecting our cushions
Taking our seats
And soaking up the atmosphere
Imagining how theatre going
Would have been
In Shakespeare’s Day

The play itself was brilliant
Fast moving
Filled with delightful humour
Music, dancing
Magic and mayhem
The perfect introduction
To Shakespeare for
Young theatre goers

The twins enjoyed the music
And the dancing
The physical acting was brilliant
And helped to bring the
Magic and trickery to life
Ariel was beautiful and
We loved her wings
And how she used them
In her magic
I really liked Caliban
He was brilliantly grumpy
I loved the relationship
Blossoming between
Miranda and Ferdinand
The comedy was subtle
In places
And the children loved
This aspect of the production
Including Antonio’s half hearted calling
During the search for Ferdinand
We loved seeing the actors up close
As they came through the audience
The twins are 12
And were able to follow the story
Though it is a Shakespeare
That we know well thanks to
The CBeebies production
And a brilliant modern interpretation
By the always awesome
Ross Montgomery
We had a side view
So missed a lot of
The action that played to the front
The set also I think looked
Much more impressive from the front
Than from our seats
One aspect I loved about the set
Was the mirrored balls that
Reflected the action
And showed the stage
At different angles
I thought that was very cleverly done

Overall we loved the show
And it has certainly inspired us all
To read and see more Shakespeare
As a family
And to visit The Globe
As often as we can
It was a very special experience
The stuff dreams are made on
