Trying Again With Gatwick and Easy Jet

I have had a lot of varied responses to my earlier post

Some kind and sympathetic

Others questioning

Others rather rude

Tomorrow is a new day

And before the dawn

We will return to Gatwick

I have repacked our bags

Ready to try again tomorrow

To fly to Spain

With Easy Jet

I spent a lot of time preparing for our journey today

Booking flights at the best time

Paying extra money to ensure myself and my three young children could sit together

Packing only essentials into our cabin bags

To make security easier

We are not frequent flyers

And today was frightening for my children

And upsetting for me

That may be hard for other people to understand

But it is what it is

The truth

My six year old boy

Is crying in his bed

Because he does not want to go through airport security tomorrow

That is not right

I know people are doing their job

Following protocol

I know security is paramount

And these are dangerous times

But my son

Is a six year old boy

Who did not understand

Why what happened to him

Had to be different to what happened to us

My husband and I are now trying to think

Of ways to make the experience better tomorrow

Because our son is genuinely worried and frightened

David has spent some time explaining why we have to be searched

And how the metal detectors work

He is going to need a lot of love and cuddles tomorrow

captain william

Tomorrow is a new day

Tomorrow we will leave an hour earlier than we did today

Tomorrow we will jolly the children along more

Tomorrow we will explain exactly what is happening as we go through security

Tomorrow we will be more prepared because we have been through it all

And more today

People have been wondering why I wrote the post

Am I trying to get some money?

An apology?

A free flight?

No

None of these things

I wrote the post because that is what I do

I write what happens to us

On my blog

It is how I process feelings and thoughts

And events that occur

I am also hoping that by sharing our journey

It might help a family who travels after us

Knowing more of what to expect at security

Would certainly have helped me

And mine

I am not blaming anyone

For what happened today

It was a series of unfortunate events

I just feel that all of them could have been handled more sensitively

Tomorrow is a new day

I am hoping that I might get some sleep tonight

Last night I did not sleep at all

For worry of all the things that might go wrong on the plane

I did not think to worry that we might not even get that far!

Tomorrow is a new day

And we will be flying to Spain!

grandchildren

See you soon Nanny and Grandpa!

  1. Let every one know, was any thing found in this major search on a six year old ,that could not have been found by any experienced staff member. Surely it’s not Easyjet who carry out security searches on flights ,so let’s point to the team responsible for this terrible experience to this family. To mum and children . Have a wonderful holiday .

  2. If you’re flying with an infant under two years of age and they have their own seat then they will need to have their own boarding pass. You may not be able to check in online so if you have any difficulty please check in at the airport at least two hours before your flight.
