Yesterday was a horrible day for me but to make sure my mood did not ruin Esther and William’s day, we did this. We made stravberry flavoured pink glittery playdough. It was marvellous! We got out the Tuff Spot, covered … Continue reading
Today Esther spent some time exploring a toy that William and I just do not get. It is a truck that is basically a sand shovel. A shovel excavator? It is designed as a tractor to be used to collect … Continue reading
So many people have been so kind since Tilda died 3 months ago. Losing a baby suddenly turns your world on end. Nothing makes sense anymore. Your days can go from humour to horror in the blink of an eye. … Continue reading
This day last year I blogged for the first time after Tilda’s birth, apart from her birth story. I talked about being a new mummy of three children under two. How it was busy and hard but also wonderful. So … Continue reading
Who knew that Haba made Sand Pit Toys?
The Toadstool that is who!
As part of our new Toad Testing mission we have been sent some different and innovative Haba Sand Toys to review.
Today I am going to introduce you to the toys that we have been sent but I am going to review only one of them in full.
The one that has stolen Esther and William’s heart and much of their time these past few sunny days.
Readers of Edspire, I give you the Haba Sand Brick Layer Set
This is a fabulous sand toy for making sand bricks and using those bricks, if you are very clever, to create sand walls and other structures.
So far we have only really managed single bricks and most of them have not survived very long.
It is tough being a twin! Fun too.
The brick laying set is easy to use and teaches traditional skills with new toy tools. Esther and William find the process fun and fascinating. They make single sand bricks over and over again. They scoop and fill, flatten and smooth, pull and remove and then more often than not destroy their sand creation.
Esther has spent a lot of time playing with this brick laying set. She likes the process of it I think. She sits in the sand box for ages making bricks, or trying too.
My husband really likes this toy and thinks it is easier to build with than a traditional bucket where you have to tip it over and empty out the sand.
We are working on building a wall.
Watch this space!
In the meantime here is Esther and the Haba Sand Brick Laying Set.
Hours and hours of fun and all for under a fiver!! From The Toadstool.
Over the next few days we are going to be testing our Haba Sand toys with moon sand and with some snow we have stored in the freezer. I knew it would come in useful!!
We will be telling you all about the following Haba Sand toys from The Toadstool.
Sand Spilling Funnel and Sieve Can’t wait to try writing Baby Tilda’s name with this one!
Haba Sand Shovel Excavator Truck
Haba Mesh Carrier Bag For keeping everything together and taking toys to the beach and back!
We hope you will join us on our Toad Testing Travels.
We have been sent the sand toys mentioned above for the purpose of this and other reviews mentioning the toys from The Toadstool.

Thursday 2nd May 2013. Matilda Mae should have been one year old. She should have been alive for 12 whole months. Instead she had been dead for three. The paradox of these numbers will haunt me always. The 2nd May … Continue reading
Today has been a hard day.
First day at home after our wonderful break at Coombe Mill.
First day at home after our final goodbye to Tilda.
Esther was up through the night with croup and a very very scared mummy.
No one had had much sleep.
I knew that whatever we did today had to be low key.
But I did not have anything planned.
And I did not need anything.
Esther and William chose.
They wanted to do painting.
They wanted to do painting on the floor.
They wanted to paint their dinosaurs
And some stones.
They wanted to paint in the garden.
And so that is what we did.
We took our Tuff Spots, our paint and painting tools, our stones and our dinosaurs outside.
There we added some leaves to the mix and some of the bark from our big big tree.
We set to play.
Mummy, Esther, William and Daddy too.
We all did some painting today.
Esther and William painted their dinosaurs
We painted and printed with leaves
We made stars with a special roller
We painted Baby Tilda’s name
Daddy painted faces on trains (logs)
Where Esther and William played happily.
William was so excited to be playing with his Emily!
While the other three painted
I had some quiet time painting
I was not really meaning to paint anything in particular
But I ended up painting this
On Eucalyptus bark
A little boat
Following the stars to the sea
Framed with a purple night sky
I love you Baby Tilda Mae
We all did painting today
I painted a picture for Tilda
Then she painted a picture for me
Oh, and just in case you did not think this was messy enough!!
This is the start of the Messy Play for Matilda Mae Linky.
I hope that you will come and join in.
I am sorry that I have not given this my full attention but I really want to build our Tuff Spot and Messy Play community. I am so grateful to Susanne for hosting last week and I promise that from now on we will be getting really messy every week! We have our thinking caps on x
Please make a mess with your family today in memory of Matilda Mae x
