Advent Book Review One: Laura’s Star

Merry Christmas!

Hearts and Stars

It is beginning to look a lot like Christmas in the Edspire household. The advent calendar is up and filled with chocolate and some little decorations are adorning the walls. We have also started our festive story collection and would like to share our favourites with you as we countdown the next 24 days.

Today we started our festive literary feast with Laura’s Star by Klaus Baumgart.

This is not really a Christmas story but it is about a star which makes it good enough for my star crazed star gazers!

When reading this to Esther on her own, I always change the girl in the story to be named Esther. Makes it even more special.

This is a story about friendship, it also illustrates a familiar saying of if you love something you should let it go, set it free.

Laura has always wanted a special friend to share her secrets with. One night she finds a broken star. She takes the star home to care for it and mend it. She hopes to tell it all her secrets but in the morning the star is gone. In th evening the star returns and they share one glorious evening together before Laura realises that she has to send the star home, back up to the sky, where it belongs. Laura knows that now whenever she feels lonely she can look up to the sky and her special sparkling star will be there to share her secrets.

A magical story of friendship that will inspire all little girls, especially those that love stars!
