Esther and William love pretend play
Anything from real life role play to small world play
To large scale fantasy adventures with unicorns and dinosaurs
Their imaginations are their only limit
But it can help, particularly with real life role play
To have some quality toys
Our kitchen from Plum Products
Is a little over a year old now
It is still much loved and going strong
It would make a perfect present this Christmas
For any little girl or boy
That enjoys playing house or cafe
That enjoys working in the kitchen
That loves to play with food
With the Boston wooden kitchen from Plum Products
There are so many different ways to play
And the kitchen looks good too!
The Plum Boston Wooden Play Kitchen
Has a modern minimalist design
It is a large open play kitchen
Making it ideal for twins, siblings and friends
The design of the kitchen encourages interaction and collaborative play
Esther and William love working together in the kitchen
Making tea and cakes for all their toys
And any visiting friends and relations
They mimic what they see mummy and daddy doing in the kitchen
They copy what they have seen on TV
And act out what they have heard in stories
They love stirring soup
Serving tea
Slicing pizza
Baking cakes and apple pie
They love to do all the kitchen chores
That they have seen or heard of
They love playing at real life
And extending their play with their imaginations
And their pretend creations
They love to be together and play
Children love to do what mummy and daddy do
They love to act out real life scenarios
One of the things we love to do as a family is make our own pizzas
Now you cannot eat pizza everyday but children love repetition
And having created once in the kitchen with real foods
They will enjoy perfecting pizzas again and again through their play
Through their play they are learning many things
Their language is developing
Vocabulary extending
They are developing their gross and fine motor skills through their large and small actions
Since starting school in September
Much of Esther and William’s kitchen role play
Centres on the school kitchen, the cook and the dinner ladies
They take turns playing the different characters and roles
Of people who help them every day
It is a wonderful window into their world
Showing what they are learning from the environment around them
The Boston Wooden Play Kitchen from Plum Products
Is double sided
So offers a range of ways to play
And means more than one child can be playing at anyone time
Esther and William often play alongside one another rather than properly together
The kitchen has a plastic sink that can be removed
Esther and William spend quite a lot of time stuffing things down the sink hole!
The sink has a mixer tap
There are two rings on the hop
And a small work surface area
I am yet to find a kitchen with enough work surface for two children to be chopping
Mixing or creating at the same time
The Plum kitchen has a cupboard with two shelves
And a two shelf oven
There is also a single shelf above the unit
We tend to keep salt and pepper and a toaster on this
The cupboard houses a tea set
Along with various wooden pots and pans
The Boston kitchen does come with a good range of accessories
Meaning that children can get on playing with it straight away
The accessories it comes with are a spoon, spatula, knife and slotted spoon
As well as a frying pan and pot with lid
We have added a whole host more and think that now perhaps we have too many
Esther and William have a wonderful time playing with their kitchen
But it is often Mummy who does the tidying up
And actually I quite like it
I enjoy setting out the tea set
Putting pizzas and pies in the oven to cook
Setting up scenarios ready for when Esther and William next come to play
Lots can be learned playing with this kitchen
Number skills are used for sharing and weighing and timing
How many slices of pizza can we have each?
One sugar or two?
How many apples shall we bake in the pie?
How much does this potato weigh?
William loves anything to do with measuring and weighing
Social skills are also learned through kitchen play
Sharing space and utensils
Negotiating with one another
Collaborating on a project
We do lots of sorting work in our kitchen play
Young children love to move things around
They love to explore products with all of their senses
Play food can be very tactile and can be used in sensory play
I love to give the children a basket of soft play food to explore
I watch as they feel each piece and ask them to talk about colour and size, shape and texture
Which of the foods do they recognise? Are there any that are new?
Can they sort into different food groups?
Can they order the foods according to size?
A wooden kitchen offers so much potential for play
For learning through play
