Fletcher and the Stars

Here at Edspire HQ we LOVE
Fletcher and the Four Seasons
This is an adorable series of stories
Exploring nature with a little fox cub

The books have taken young readers
To the woods
To the beach
Chasing rainbows
Catching blossom and snowflakes
Chatting to caterpillars
Munch!

We do love Fletcher
He reminds me of all my children
Rolled into one
Curious, caring, impatient
Impulsive, gentle, playful,
Innocent, inquisitive and
In search of adventure

Fletcher like all little children
Is trying to make sense
Of the world around him

In his latest adventure
Fletcher and the Stars
Fletcher is worried about the stars
While he and his mum
Are watching the night sky
The stars go out
They disappear one by one
Instead of a starry sparkle
There was … nothing

Fletcher’s mum
(who knows EVERYTHING!
According to Edie)
Tries to reassure her cub
But Fletcher still worries
And he is determined
To help the stars shine again

But Fletcher is not sure how
And so he heads off
Through the wintry woods
To find his friends

Baby badger is awake
She is afraid of the dark
She is hiding until
The stars come back

Fletcher explains that he is
Going to save the stars
And the badger cub
Is keen to help

The young friends
Try to sweep the clouds away
By swishing twigs across the sky
But they are just too small
To reach the clouds

Their friend squirrel tries to help
Swooshing his tail
From the branches of a tree
They still cannot reach the clouds

The friends decide to ask Owl
Who tries to sweep away the clouds
With her wings
She has no luck

Fletcher is frustrated
He has woken his friends
And failed to help the stars
But he has helped someone
His friend the badger cub
She has been so busy
Reaching for the stars
She forgot to be afraid of the dark

Fletcher and Badger have one last idea
To try to help the stars sparkle again
And with a little help from the wind
It works
The darkness blazes with starshine
And the two friends watch the stars dance
By the light of an ice-bright shiny moon

This is a beautiful beautiful book
A sparkling story of
Friendship and discovery
I think it might just be
My favourite Fletcher yet
The prettiest purple pages
And all those stars
Make me think of Baby Tilda skies
I think Tiphanie Beeke is a magician
Her illustrations are filled with
Awe and wonder
They perfectly complement
Julia Rawlinson’s lyrical prose

I agree with Edie
Fletcher is my favourite fox
And this is a super series of stories
For exploring nature with children
